Hot Water System

I am not a plumber, but I am a builder and specialise in bathroom and kitchen renovations. I can advise, that the colour of the water is definately the tank itself oxidising.
If the watertank was situated on the outside of the house, I would have no problem keeping it a while longer, as a leak would not exactly cause too much damage. A tank however that is placed indoors, in particular inside a cabinet, I would highly recommend the replacement of the unit, certainly within the next couple of months. These units do have a drip tray fitted under, but it can by no means hold the contents of the unit. This could cause major water damage to your joinery and a huge mess.
Sorry for the bad news, but I would replace.
cheers
Erik
