I like the clean look of the shower, and there are no doors and "nooks and crannies" for grime to build up on. We chose a glass screen instead of running the tiled wall out as we thought it would look a little "heavy" in the ensuite. I don't have current photos, but here is a photo of it during construction: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: walk in showers 15Jul 07, 2010 4:20 pm we have one in our ensuites as well. I've already experienced trying to shower while sitting in a chair in a normal sized shower. ( over a period of 6 month) Impossible! So we built this house for when/if we have further times later in life when we'll need a shower chair. i've written before that we actually added an old style shower curtain to ours but to be honest we don't really need it. There's very minimal splashing outside the shower area anyway. We also have an IXL 4 light ceiling heater/fan combo. Did she actually have the bathmat INSIDE the shower area? And then moved it in front of the vanity and hoped I wouldn't notice the water squishing when I stepped on it?? Teenagers! :end rant: ![]() ![]() Re: walk in showers 17Jul 08, 2010 1:01 am I specifically chose a walk in shower with no hob for when i 'may' need to sit due to 'old' age!! absolutely love it! Who cares about the water splash, it is after all a bathroom. takes no time to dry, but then it's just me and my son...do it for you, not family or friends! I put tiles to the ceiling so essentially it is a wet room. I also lashed out and put in a towel warmer, lovely warm fluffy towel everytime. You'd be amazed at how it warms the room, takes the chill off, and the over head stastic puts out a lot of heat. I just use a household broom specifically for this purpose to sweep the water back down drain if i choose too on that day, not a necessity tho'! Go for it, you will be glad you did! Best photos i could find.....the yellow hue is with the static heater on. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The mat has gone now, too large to handle.... Guess what, I can't have them and that's what I wanted. 2 of the showers are on the first floor and he did not lower the floor during construction, he won't cut into the posi's now. He has done a great job constructing a really strong and solid home but I am so dissapointed with the showers now having to be raised and stepped into. The draftsman had walk in shower written on the plan but the engineer and builder overlooked it. One of the showers is 1.8mx0.9. it's going to look crap! Can any builders on the forum advise me on what to do next. Re: walk in showers 20Aug 09, 2010 10:22 pm In my old place (a rental), our whole bathroom was essentially the shower floor. The toilet and basin stuck out of the wall, so nothing touched the floor. So when you'd be having a shower, it was like showering in a big empty room. I HATED IT! A few times the drain clogged up and this meant the entire floor was about 1 inch deep with water. My husband used to have hour long showers (this was a country with no water restrictions!) and he'd forget about the drain and water came out from under the door and flooded the carpet outside the bathroom. This next bit is disgusting... We had a visitor with questionable hygiene habits. He had a shower after doing a number 2. Obviously he didn't use toilet paper and must have just washed his bum with the shower hose. Let's just say he didn't get all the gunk down the drain... I walked in there later to see bits of poo on the floor here and there *vomit* So just be aware that 'stuff' can float around everywhere if your drains are a bit blocked! Another thing I hated was when we had visitors and I was showering, I had to get dressed in the bathroom. When the entire floor is wet (when our drain wasn't working properly), putting pants on was a nightmare. We had a wooden thingy to stand on, but your jeans would still flop in the water if you weren't careful. This is the current bathroom with a european laundry.
