Heated towel rails or heated towel shelf?

but will they dry and heat towels as well as the ladder type heated towel rails?
I wouldn't think so, since the towels would be folded - the part in contact with the rack might be dry and warm, but the other side; not so much...

With heated rails, you want one with as many rungs as possible and reasonably close together too. Those four-rail numbers that have the rungs widely spaced wouldn't do much at all. I'm happy with ours, but if I was doing it again I'd go for a hydronic floor-to-ceiling job. No visible wiring, and they're said to be the bee's knees - they heat the room too.
