Green/Blue stuff around tap base

Hello all. Recently I have noticed a greeny blue coloured substance around the base of our bathroom tap. Taps were installed about 10 months ago, we cleaned the stuff off yesterday and that amount in the photos below was back this morning. Any ideas what it is and how to stop it from happening?
Our tap gets this sometimes, but it's a lot darker and takes a lot longer to develop. It's just some sort of mineral build up that in our case has caused a bit of corrosion (long before we moved into our place)...
