Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 22, 2009 10:18 pm What are peoples thoughts on no shower screen? Do people find that water flies everywhere? We currently have a shower that is smack bang right in the middle of the bathroom and is a real eye sore The drainage is really good so we were hoping to just rip out the screen so it opens up the whole bathroom. What are peoples thoughts? Re: shower screen or no shower screen? 2Apr 22, 2009 11:03 pm kris, I was just saying to my builder the other day that I believe within 3 years a "no shower screen" bath will be a standard upgrade option. And by that, I mean that they are a future development to come. I'm pretty certain on that to be honest, people, like you, are now discussing it, and anyone who has used a shower-screen-less shower, say they are great. So you should go for it if you like it. I think you may need quite a bit more tiling in your bathroom (ie. a wetroom) but I think they look great. In my next home - definitely. This home, too late now! So long as the tiling is high enough and there's no chance of splashing the switches/powerpoints the it would be ok - but yes, you will get splashes. We're only having a showerscreen on one side (in addition to the wall at the back), so it will be open on 2 sides. I have opted for a shower head that only goes directly down - rain shower are they called? Here's a couple of ******* drawings of what our bathroom layout will be (ignore the colours etc) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: shower screen or no shower screen? 4Apr 23, 2009 7:04 am IMHO they are too cold... not enough heat stays in, when it is open... Re: shower screen or no shower screen? 5Apr 23, 2009 7:50 am Sorry but I hate the idea. When we redid our bathroom in one of our rentals two years ago I had 2wks without a shower screen. You would not believe where water can escape to!! Then your tiles become slippery and you need to wipe down all surfaces after every shower. I think too dangerous when little kids are around. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: shower screen or no shower screen? 8Apr 24, 2009 7:36 pm esg Any photos of the bathroom? Well I guess we can try without it, if it is to much maintenance we will put up a screen. I will try and get pics up soon. Re: shower screen or no shower screen? 9Apr 24, 2009 7:56 pm Just a screen between the bath & shower? Wouldn't that then leave the shower open onto the vanity etc? Ours has the screen between the shower & vanity, with it open to the bath. The main reason we decided to go with this design is because I wanted the bath under the window and the toilet at the other end of the bathroom. As it will be the only bath in our house, when we have kids they will use this bath - and as such I wanted to make sure that I had full access to the whole bath. If the shower was fully enclosed, I would have had limited access to the end of the bath. Regarding it being cold - I wil admit I'm a bit worried about this... but I'm getting underfloor heating installed, so hopefully that will help make the whole bathroom nice and warm. For replacements, I'd definitely go with an Australian-made product for quality assurance.
