Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 04, 2008 12:26 pm Hi
I hope this topic hasn't come up before - I have done a search for this but haven't had luck finding anything (but am sure it's been asked before ....) Anyway - we are supplying towel rails, toilet roll holders etc to the builder - does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can find good looking products at great prices - online or otherwise? I would like to put towel ladders (non-heated) in the ensuite and kids bathroom. Thanks Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 3Nov 04, 2008 7:45 pm ed, I just had a look at your blog and saw the heated towel rails you have installed. Did you get them from one of those websites? Do you just plug them into a normal powerpoint? Would love to hear how well they work once you've tried them
becster, I just ordered a tap from the renovationd website also on ed's advice, it arrived very quickly and was a good price. Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 4Nov 05, 2008 9:54 am a friend of mine got all her bathroom fittings and fixtures from ebay, everything turned out to be good except one tap which just needed some minor thing done to it by the plumber.(didnt cost any extra). Hey donuts, I got my heated towel rail from graysonline.com.au ended up costing a tad under $60 delivered! It was an Omega brand too. I'll let you know how it goes and yes it just plugs in to a powerpoint. Seems like they only have the ladder style heaters left. http://www.graysonline.com.au/lot.asp?LOT_ID=3086379 Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 7Nov 05, 2008 8:10 pm Thanks ed, would love to hear how you go with it, sounds like a bargain! Will have to do some measurements to see if the ladder fits, might just be a little large! I am not familiar with graysonline, will have to hope that they might sell regularly on there and another one might come up? Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 8Nov 05, 2008 9:01 pm i am also interested to the heat towel rail too, and i have reserved a power point in my ensuie for this puspose.. will love to hear your feedback too Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 9Nov 10, 2008 10:45 am Ok with graysonline just remember to factor in that the BUYER needs to pay the fee, usually 12-15% + shipping costs. So whatever price you are willing to pay will need to take that in to consideration.
I had a play with the towel rail over the weekend. Pretty good, takes about 25mins or so to get up to temp. Once its up to temp it's actually pretty hot so if you have small ones around then I wouldn't install it in their bathroom until they are old enough to know it gets hot. Otherwise it's great stepping out of the shower with a warm towel waiting. In winter I'll probably put a timer on it and set it up to warm up my clothes in the morning Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 10Nov 11, 2008 8:45 pm We have the ladder heated towel rails in our bathroom & ensuite.
We had ours in time to be hard wired in & are on a timer system to come on for 3 hours in the morning & 3 hours at night... Besides having nice warm towels when you get out of the shower, the best thing about them is that the towel dries off quickly, so they aren't hanging there damp & getting stinky (another technical term). DH showers twice a day & during winter his towel never seemed dry. Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 11Nov 11, 2008 9:29 pm thanks for the review ed, Jo yours sounds lovely too.
thanks for the tip about little ones - we were considering just one for the ensuite, however the only available space for one is on the wall above the end of the bath hob .... maybe not a good place for an electrical thing, kids or no Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 12Nov 22, 2008 11:09 am I got my Omega heated towel rails from Grays Online too, several months apart. They seem to have them regularly, and usually in different sizes. I have an 11-rail model for our ensuite and a 7-rail one for the kids' bathroom. Or I may swap them around, not sure yet.
There are lots of other brands, even Bunnings have them, but you might pay anywhere from $300-$600 for one retail. Mine cost $80 and $130 from memory. I just bought toilet roll holders and robe hooks from Grays this week, and now I'm on the lookout for glass shelves for the showers... Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 14Nov 22, 2008 12:14 pm Just for all the Melbournians..... bathroom accessories have sort of done my head in a bit... but E&S Trading have a really good range I think. Not necessarily cheap , but nice practical stuff and great glass shower shelves.
I particularly want glass shelves with a rail so bottles etc can't slide/be knocked off.... couldn't believe how hard it was to find one that wasn't ugly! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 15Nov 22, 2008 3:22 pm Mmm, I want one without a rail. Not practical, I know, but a lot less obtrusive. I also want one with a built in depression for the soap. I've seen one, but the price is unbelievable.
I'm sick of traipsing through plumbing supply shops.... Re: Best place to look for bathroom accessories? 16Nov 22, 2008 3:43 pm I was quite happy with Reece, I think they have nice stuff.

Electrical safety for the heated towel rail should be ok - if your house has a safety cut-out switch in the main meter box. Older houses may not have one installed - or it might only be on the power circuit (not the lighting circuit as well). Regulations requiring safety cut-out switches apparently vary in different states. If installing glass shelves, make sure they are made of safety glass, that they are not at eye height, and that they do not have sharp corners.
