Sarking is necessary with colorbond roof. No ifs, no butts. If you live in a warmer area it would also be benificial to upgfrade to a product like air cell or similiar I'll show you how to keep your new home betwen 15 and 26 degrees celcius all year round - in your buget - GUARANTEED! www.sunrisehomes.net.au Re: Is sarking necessary with Colorbond roof? 47Nov 19, 2008 10:35 pm Something I've heard from a roof installer which hasn't been mentioned yet, is that it's good to have sarking installed between CB and the metal battens for the purpose of noise reduction. Apparently when the CB expands and contracts from heating and cooling, it can squeak and groan across the metal battens if directly secured to them. If there's a layer of sarking between the two metal surfaces, the reduction in friction means that noise of this nature is greatly reduced.
Cheers, Justin. Groaning roofs 48Nov 20, 2008 8:24 am I am not sure about that, he could be right.
But colorbond roofs creak and groan on timber battens too. Common practice is for sarking to be installed between the battens and colorbond roof anyway. Not much help on thi sone - sorry! I will put in a whirlybird Whirlybirds 50Nov 20, 2008 9:52 am I was talking to a builder in Brisbane recently. They paid a considerable amount of money to have their homes tested and measured to see what worked and what didnt.
They were very disapointed in the result of the whirlybirds and now use this product: http://www.universaltileventilators.com ... gated.html I'll show you how to keep your new home betwen 15 and 26 degrees celcius all year round - in your buget - GUARANTEED! www.sunrisehomes.net.au Re: Whirlybirds 51Nov 20, 2008 10:37 am libechacos I was talking to a builder in Brisbane recently. Re: Is sarking necessary with Colorbond roof? 53Nov 20, 2008 2:35 pm Would any one be able to tell me, is sarking standard when installing a colorbond roof in melbourne? I get that funny feeling that my builder may slip it as an extra if it should be done standard roof ventilator or sarking 54Nov 20, 2008 2:37 pm Even with effective roof ventilation I would still use sarking to reflect the radiant heat.

What climate zone We're in Perth and were quoted (by builder) $3500 for Anticon. 3 Whirlybirds would have been another $1200, so not a cheap exercise After speaking to the builder we decided to forego the Anticon and put in Whirlybirds or similar ourselves after handover.
