Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 15, 2011 2:20 pm Hi Everyone, We have land in Hidden Valley, VIC, approx 1800m so a decent size. It has a 33mtr frontage which reduces to 18m at the rear. We have probably a 3mtrs drop from front to back. We start building in hopefully June this year and completed before xmas. Thats the background, here is my question. We are wanting to use most of the land to setup a decent play area for our 2kids. My idea is to put up a retaining wall from one boundary to the other approx 3metres back from the house with stairs in the middle up to a 'hopefully' flat area. Along this we want to use a hedging plant to create a sort of fence/barrier. Enough to dissuade the dogs from jumping up there and stop the kids from falling off the edge. On this raised rear section we would like to put in a riding path in either a figure 8 or irregular oval shape, something the kids can ride there bikes around (kids only young 4yrs and 1yr currently), we dont know whether ashphalt or concrete would be best? We are on a budget though, any ideas? In the center of this we are wanting to have a play center with cubby/swings/slide etc and a separate trampoline. I have been looking into using rubber 'kiddie' tiles in the middle of the track which comes into about $35 per 1m x 1m tile. This to provide a soft safe area for kids and also reduce the amount of area that requires mowing Also at the top of the stairs we are planning on having something like pool gates with the kid safety latches on them, not so much to keep the kids in or out but to keep the dogs out so they dont leave there 'business' everywhere Long story short: Does this sound like a reasonable idea? Things we havnt considered? Type of hedging bush we should look at? And path material? Thanks in advance, im just as excited planning this yard as I was the house design Re: Help with a landscaping idea 2Mar 15, 2011 7:58 pm boofallen Long story short: Does this sound like a reasonable idea? Placing a hedge on top of a retaining wall can be done, you just need to use the right plant so that the roots of the hedge don't adversely affect the wall long term. Someone on this forum should be able to satisfactory answer this question for you. All the best. You must be new to the internet. You're also the only person anyone here has ever heard of washing their garage wall. I hate to break it to you, there are insects and… 6 5195 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 36515 Ideally you would engage a landscaper to give you some insight what they may need in the space to make your vision come to life… 1 14323 |
