Timber Should I use these ones: 90 x 45mm F7 Treated H3 http://www.thelogfactory.com.au/categories.aspx?catid=1 Spans Joist span? (is 450mm centres ok?) Cross members span? (every 1000mm?) Should I put cross members at the extremes or just in the middle? Option 1 Option 2 Brackets Brackets every 468mm gives me 6 brackets per joist (4410mm) is that ok? I can't find any picture of the brackets now. but: Are there holes at different levels? I mean, how can I level the joists to the height I want? Moving the joist up or down? or the bolts are supposed to go exactly at the centre of the joist? Should I use dynabolts or concrete screws to fix the brackets? Thank you guys! That wood is good.. I would get 2 x 90 x 45 for each length, continuous piece if you can. The anchors are here on page 8 http://www.pryda.com.au/media/fckupload ... 202012.pdf You can get 2 sorts at bunnings, one has the round bit inside, one doesnt.. I would go the one without. You will see the holes in the middle and on the sides of the stirrups, you adjust the wood to suit get that level, drill with a 10mm drill and secure with a 120mm+ 10mm galvanised bolt. Make sure they are SUPER tight.. you will need a shifter also. 450mm joists are perfect.. if 468 is for the brack thats fine, you can actually cover over a 1m (i think 1600mm is max span for 2 x 90 x 45.. For the cross members every 1000mm to 800mm will be fine, dont go over board its just to add more support and stop latteral movement, make them tight! if your hammering them in thats a good outcome! You shouldnt need too go to the very edge within 300mm will be fine.. Just make sure there is one relatively close to the edge of each row. Dynabolts 10mm for the anchor to the slab. Predrill, hammer in, remember once these are in, they stay in.. Measure twice cut once.. My bad boy.. Re: Joists timber and size 26Oct 05, 2012 5:22 am tengals im lost here,,,, using a 70 x 45 bearer on the side? (ie' flat?) it cant be done? it will bend like crazy? or am i reading this wrong? Fixed at 500mm centres over a continuous length, it wont bend This is not a structural deck it will be stuck to a slab, its a bit like using battens on flooring internally Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Joists timber and size 27Oct 05, 2012 9:49 am Thanks humble!!! Are you saying I can go with 3 brackets per joist? (joist length=2410, that gives me around 1083 span for the brackets) is this OK? I just hope I end up with a deck similar to that one mate Cheers Re: Joists timber and size 29Oct 05, 2012 3:15 pm OK. Problems I went to Bunnings and the brackets (Bolt Down Post Anchor PSB90G) are more than 130mm high! I couldn't find any of 110mm or so. 150mm is the absolutely maximum I have, 130mm plus deck. Anyone know a different brand apart of Pryda? The Joist hangers are: Framing Brackets MPFB4590, all good with those. $59 the box of 45u Re: Joists timber and size 30Oct 06, 2012 5:33 am Andres OK. Re: Joists timber and size 31Oct 06, 2012 5:40 pm Hi I've finally got one with the correct height (Doyles, $6.51), but the lower hole is just on the edge of the joist, is this a problem? should I still drill an put a bolt there? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Another problem is that I cannot drill straight! I presented the joists on the bracket and drilled but end up too low or too high, any trick for that? or it's just practice and after the 200th drill I should do it on the first try Cheers Re: Joists timber and size 32Oct 06, 2012 6:48 pm Andres Hi I've finally got one with the correct height (Doyles, $6.51), but the lower hole is just on the edge of the joist, is this a problem? should I still drill an put a bolt there? Re: Joists timber and size 37Oct 09, 2012 11:19 am humble How did you go chief? Nice deck mate! Did you need to do any kind of termite protection or is it all in the type of timber you use? Cheers. Did you need to do any kind of termite protection or is it all in the type of timber you use? Cheers. My termite protection is inside the wall.. The deck itself sits under the protection line, and there is a 10mm gap around the bricks between the deck and house. The deck itself is built using pryda stirrups on posts that are also 100mm high. This should be enough according to the termite guy I asked. Re: Joists timber and size 39Oct 10, 2012 5:58 pm ohoh, I wanted to layout the deck along the 10m (tiled floor) and the plan was to pull this timber floor out so all the external timber is the same. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But now I realise the joist under that floor have not the correct orientation! I was thinking that instead of changing all the plan and lay the deck along the 2.4m, I could lay the deck in the same orientation as the current floor and then the main deck in the orientation I wanted, like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What can I do then to make that boundary look nice?
