Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Apr 17, 2011 8:15 pm Hi everyone, In my last post I was wondering about tile colour. Now I think we found one, but its a bit more than what we wanted to spend. As we are going to be buying a large amount (65m2+), can you bargain the price at all? I know we were able to do this with appliances, but I don't know if it is done with tiles! Cheers! I was just hoping that someone here had done it, or knew about it, so that when they say "we don't do that", I wouldn't feel like an idiot! we asked, it didn't happen, doesn't matter, we tried Every builder is different, would have different margins, we didn't want our second stove top and rangehood installed and told them, it's not their standard practice to let people keep them but we got to. We did ask for a discount on our tiles, it didn't happen. We told them we wouldn't pay extra for vinyl wrap in the kitchen, they stuffed up and we got it for free, I know what a vinyl wrap kitchen costs and it's nowhere near the squillions they wanted to charge us. Things are marked up so much why shouldn't you ask for a discount? I've done it many times! I don't deal through builders though - just direct with the tile supplier. This is what we did. A tile we liked was on sale for $34.00 psm and the regular price was $46.00 psm. We got told the builder will buy it for $37.00 psm but charge us the tile shop full rate of $46.00 psm. We enquired why we don't get to purchase it for the sale price of $34.00psm and was told that if we order through our builder, we don't get the sale price Anyway, we decided to buy all our tiles separate from our builder which worked out well as it meant we could shop around to every tile shop and we ended up having tiles supplied by 3 different companies. For our main floor tile, because we bought around 170sqm of the floor tile, the tile shop reduced it even further from their sale price of $34.00 psm to $31.00 psm. So, yes, it can definitely be done Re: Can you ask for a discount on tile prices? 7Apr 19, 2011 9:22 pm claireh Hi everyone, In my last post I was wondering about tile colour. Sure you can get the price down to $2 a tile in some instances but all depends on your ability Normally in Australia people do not normally haggle on price so what's set is what you pay unfortunately I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 16595 Ardo That is so funny! I wonder how many people know who Larry Haun is these days. I have a couple of young guys we call Mo 1 & Mo 2 who run a crew of 6 boys and… 9 16253 Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 10782 |
