Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jul 11, 2009 6:09 pm Hi Our kitchen will have Parbury "Frosty White" cabinetry with an Essa Stone "Platinum" benchtop. We've chosen a stone-look/brown/grey tile for the splashback. Laid square 600mm x 600mm so it will fill the space between the benchtop and overhead cupboards. Trying to achieve a splashback in the practical sense but with the warmth of stone that glass doesn't have. But we're wondering whether this style and colour will date? Which lead us to consider long rectangular white tiles laid horizontally. We're going for a Classic Country style home with timber floorboards, bullnose verandah, etc. But the supplier only has this particular tile in a stark white or classic cream/white. My question is, does an all white kitchen work? Or does it need warmth in the benchtop or cupboards? Does anyone have pics to share? We really, really want to have the white cupboards as they have a square cut out that we like and it ties in with the style we're wanting to achieve. The benchtop is up in the air but we still like the slight warmth and speckle that the Platinum colour brings - it's not a cream or a white - in between. Please help as our builder is finally putting together our pricing and we don't want to hold them up any longer than necessary. Thanks in advance! Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? Pics? 2Jul 11, 2009 10:06 pm I think it works, we're really happy with ours. A few others on the forum have all white too. We have Laminex Polar White cabinets, and Diamondgloss Pure Mineralstone benchtops. Splashbacks are 100x300 white tiles - so yep, lots of white! I like the idea of 600x600 tiles for the splashback. I've seen it done before and it looks a lot like a glass splashback. I doubt it will date quickly, but who knows. Everything will probably date at some time. It probably is the easiest colour scheme to add colour to. As your tastes change, you can cheaply and easily replace your accessories. I'm looking for something bold to put over my kitchen window. Eventually there'll be cupboards there. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/100_0499.jpg http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/JellyLegs01/Kitchen-1.jpg Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? Pics? 3Jul 11, 2009 10:44 pm This is what I think you are trying to achieve, but with the white brick tiles.....is that correct? In this case the timber floor gives a warm feel although it does still feel slightly modern with the stainless splashback. I would either add a black granite benchtop or just your island in a wood top if possible. If you are having timber floors and you can add something like a big timber clock and a timber dining nearby that would add warmth. You need to compensate for all that white somehow to get warmth aswell. Have I said warmth enough Sorry I think it will look beautiful either way and consider how does the rest of your home "feel" Contemporary with a traditional edge? There is this aswell Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? Pics? 4Jul 11, 2009 10:51 pm Hi - here is our kitchen. We have Laminex polar white cupboards and Caesarstone Snow benchtops 40mm. Splashback is Dulux Winter Waves, a fairly dark sort of teal colour. And floors are American Oak with a matte finish. Pics? 5Jul 11, 2009 10:54 pm well I think the kitchens in the pics above are gorgeous. My DB and his wife are currently fighting over their kitchen, which she wants pretty much like you, whereas he wants a cheap stone top (to save $$$) in a yellowy colour. I think she will win that one, and I hope she does. I have noticed in all the mags at the moment, H&G, Home Beaut etc. they are all white kitchens. I hope this gives you confidence. Whether you do the large tile, or the smaller brick i don't think will matter, and I don't believe either will significantly date the kitchen. Having all white makes it "up to date" and incorporating classic lines like the beaded doors and natural timber floors will make it wonderful IMO! Annie A thankful person is a happy person. Have you thought of white tiles laid subway fashion? I think they take on a country look, especially in this picture where they are teamed with country style tapware. I love love love white, who could tire of it. Go with your instincts. Sorry, cannot add picture, something about a "board attachment quota being reached" Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? Pics? 7Jul 12, 2009 1:02 am Thank you all so much! You "get" the look we're trying to achieve. Beautiful pics. And lots of encouragement for all-white! gweluphome - that stainless steel splashback is stunning!!! I'll bet it would be mega-expensive? Would love to have that kitchen... We have an island bench that is 4 metres long plus equivalent bench along the wall with the cooktop (but some of this is reduced with cupboards an cooktop. So a lot of benchspace and cupboards. So if we went with the stonelook/brown/grey 600x600mm tile it would really stand out. Which might not be a good thing... But it might be OK The 100x300mm white tiles would be great but they seemed a bit too stark compared to the benchtop. The sales consultant screwed up her nose so I wasn't very encouraged to go that way! We do have the option of laying 300mmD x 600mmW (horizontal) oversized, rectified edge tiles in the "Biscuit" (very slightly off-white). Would this look odd, having large brick-like blocks across the splashback? I've not seen it done in magazines, etc. This is the tile we've chosen for our bathrooms, laid vertically. And it matches in very well with the whole look. Pity we can't have that same tile in 600mm x 600mm or 100mm x 300mm. Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? I like the idea of doing the island bench in a wood benchtop. That would add warmth - it would be a really lovely feature. Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? Pics? 9Jul 12, 2009 9:26 pm My kitchen choices were white gloss cupboard in Snowdrift and creamy whiteish c/stone benches in Osprey. SO I am all for white. Our floors are porcelain tiles in a colour called Aristo Beige. I am planning on a DEEP red glass splashback to break the witishness of it all (obviosuly not for your style of kitchen). I like the pics that were posted, all of them. Pics? 16Jul 23, 2009 11:39 pm Hi SuH, I love the photo of your kitchen. Forgive my ignorance but is this a new one or the one you did 20 years ago? I love the white kitchen and wondered what colour your bench tops are? We have decided on designer white 2 pack gloss and are still working on which benchtops to get. We like caesarstone ice snow and osprey (this might look a bit cream?). Thanks. Re: All-white kitchen advice please. Does it work? The CS is Nougat, if you want something whiter, Essastone Basmati is a tad whiter and has less fleck. I actually like it better with white as it's closer in colour. I don't think it ever dates. It is classic and timeless. If you go through the decorator magazines which I do religiously lol you will see a lot of all white kitchens. A question.
