The white tops might be a bit high maintenance in the long run though - is this kitchen already installed or is it a display? The kickboards are the approximately 150mm high strips that are recessed between the floor and the bottom of the floor units - since your bar back goes all the way to the floor I'm not sure this would help much - but I am also a fan of dark kicks as they have less tendency to show scuff marks (even though EVERYONE seems to be doing kicks the same colour as doors at the moment). One thought to break up the white on white might be to change the colour of the drawer sets either side of the oven to somthing that compliments the tiles? Changing the entire bar back might work out well - it would certainly alter the look from the view the photo is taken from, and it would be a relatively minor change (as opposed to changing the benchtops) but again, this is assuming the kitchen is already in place. If this kitchen has not yet been built then I would be encouraging you to consider a darker possibly aggregate or stone looking top - again, dark timber tops are very IN at the moment...but for how long...it is a nice design and white is white is white is classic. Cheers, Earl Re: is my kitchen to cold? 3Jan 25, 2009 1:41 pm I agree that the back of the island bench would look nice in a brighter colour. However I am also a fan of white and before doing a big change like that, have you thought of just putting some colourful accessories arounf the place - like a red clock or wall hanging on that wall near the fridge, and maybe changing the floral display on the table to a brighter colour (though that one is gorgeous!)
Some other bright coloured accessories like the red mixer someone put up in another thread, also I think it was madmel who had some red accessories in her kitchen and it looked fantastic. will try to find the link. Re: is my kitchen to cold? 4Jan 25, 2009 2:44 pm when potential customers come into the showroom and request all white I always warn them that all white can be great but can also look like a hospital and becomes very uninspiring and monotonous.
The best way i find to add colour is with a splash back. A product like zenolite for example is cheap enough to replace in 5 years when you decide to have a make over or to that effect. Behind the island would also be a great place to place some colour. Timbers are a great way to add warmth with there use of yellows and oranges or darker hues of brown and reds add character and interest to any kitchen. A Laminate mounted on board is also another cheap and easy product you can mount. The colours are huge and can be cheap enough to replace . You do need colour, however you decide to add it, it will always be a benefit. You could also add prints on the walls to help introduce colour, especially where you have the mirrors, replace them with bold prints of tropical foliage and flowers. You have a lot of chrome and s/steel also which dosent help with the warmth factor. Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! My first thought on seeing the photos was that a rug underneath the table would make a big difference and warm up the space. Perhaps in deep red/green colours. Just make sure it is big enough to allow the chairs to be sat on and pushed out and still be on the rug. That plus perhaps more vibrant artwork, should work nicely with the white. Re: is my kitchen to cold? 8Jan 26, 2009 12:04 pm I think the tile colour is a bit drab looking A glass splashback in a brighter colour would make a big difference . The two cupboards on either side of the range hood you could also change to glass fronts with maybe those LED lights inside.
Replace the grey pots on the bench...small vertical picture or art piece on the side wall. Little touches like that will colour up the room. Re: is my kitchen to cold? 10Jan 26, 2009 1:48 pm I think the only reason the place looks "cold" is that it looks like a display home. Perhaps it is a display home ? Getting rid of the oversized vase with twigs in it would help for a start. Adding a few items that indicate humans live there would be a good second move. Then lets have another pic. Then lets have another pic. Geez she might love her oversized vase "with twigs" lol. Get a nice big fruit bowl for the island bench, a few coloured bits would liven it up....and there's nothing wrong with being neat. Re: is my kitchen to cold? 12Jan 26, 2009 2:26 pm I agree with the coloured items - you can get a whole range of Breville items that are all colour coded. The red is the best in my opinion And a matching colourful wall clock is a great idea!
I would avoid the rug under the table - Imagine all the food! How about a nice colourful runner for the table? The idea of a fruit bowl in the bend is great. Also - the stainless steel picture frames are too sterile. Go for wooden. Avoid any neural (especially grey, white or black) colours where you can - go colour! There's plenty of Morrocan/Indian style accessories out there that would jazz it up a bit. Re: is my kitchen to cold? 13Jan 26, 2009 2:39 pm haha trust me when my 2 year old runs rampard the place looks nothing like this! pics were taken for real estate purpose
i like adding red artwork idea.. oh and i tend to like my oversized vase and twigs Re: is my kitchen to cold? 14Jan 26, 2009 4:01 pm now that I see it in context, with the third pic looking at the living area, I think it looks a lot warmer already! the feature wall is a lovely colour.
I agree, your vase and sticks are lovely, even better close up Re: is my kitchen to cold? 15Jan 26, 2009 5:27 pm I love white. But John (dh) reckoned that it was gonna be too sterile and with 4 kids it wouldn't stay white for long.
least you can add color to it. John, Tarin and the Kids Built and moving in to the Regent Grande with Masterton homes http://thebrownsaremovingtothecountry.blogspot.com Re: is my kitchen to cold? 17Jan 26, 2009 7:25 pm Love the expresso lignea... nearly got that one myself.
But honestly when i saw the first photo of the kitchen i thought it was a bit stark..BUT now that I have seen the whole room with all the other dark furniture it looks great. If you want to add a little colour how about doing something like this...just a thought Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built a modified "Daydream 279" .. Match a peice of artwork in the same colour as well. All the other suggestions are great, why not do them all?

I like the white. I also like the idea of the front of the breakfast bar being another colour, as for timber, how much of it do have in the room?
