Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 05, 2016 1:52 pm Hi everyone, I really, really need any advice and tips please! We are building the Venetia 25 with Dennis Family Homes and have our walk through inspection with our site supervisor on Thursday. I have already printed off a list of things to look out for in each room such as paint work, door handles, power points, tiles, carpet, lights, cupboards etc but what are some other things people did while doing this inspection?? I want to take a little night light to test all the power points but my husband thinks this is excessive! I also want to take a spirit level to make sure surfaces are straight and power points and light switches are straight. Is this to much? Would it be ok to run all the taps to make sure there are no blockages?? What are things have people checked at these inspections? Any information that you can give would be greatly appreciated! Our site supervisor has only contacted us once during the whole build even though we had called him and text him for information on how the build was going. So we are very concerned that he is going to try and rush us through the inspection. Thanks in advance for your help!! Re: Questions to ask at the final walk through 4Sep 07, 2016 11:20 pm I loved the PCI guide. So helpful... But I also took a very experienced building independent inspector with me. He found bowed walls I would never have picked, checked under doors with mirror to see if they were paint sealed and site supervisor didn't excuse things he picked as he has done when I have asked about same things. Worth the $600 if you don't know much about building. Also meant I could spend more time checking electrical and checking basins etc Re: Questions to ask at the final walk through 5Sep 08, 2016 9:07 am For our first build I took my phone charger and tested every single power point in the house so definitely good idea! Turn on all the lights, we had one or two lights that didn't turn on so they got fix. Turn all the taps on for a few minutes and check to see if it leaks. Check outside where your downpipes are and see if there are any leaks. We had one downpipe that needed replacing as it was leaking. Check under all shelves to ensure there are proper screws or bolts holding them up. We didn't look underneath the shelves until nearly 2 years afterwards and realised it was being held by one or two screws and the others won't screwed on at all! If you have laminate floorings walk around and see if it squeaks/make any noises or feels like it's not glue on properly. You'll rather they fix it now then after moving in. If you can see if you can go into manhole to double check insulation has been done (or if you already have photos don't worry too much). Hmm just be picky, if its reasonable they should fix it but at least you brought it up. Better than not saying aynything. Good luck and take photos if you can! Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! Beckham: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67280 Canterbury: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81175 Ardo That is so funny!
