Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 07, 2009 7:50 pm Ok so aaaaaaaaaaages ago I started a thread about what are you looking forward to the most, now I'm curious for those that have moved in, what do you LOVE the most? Apart from everything, I love my ducted heating and how I can program it! I love my kitchen and the giant oven and I am pretty sure that once I can use my driveway I really will love driving into my garage! I also just love the space! The layout is great for the kids. My kitchen is a nice design and very functional. The butlers pantry is awesome. The house faces the right way on the block to make the most of the sun's aspect. We have extra insulation so the climate control is better. The floor tiles are easier to clean. We no longer live on a busy road. I can't wait to have our enclosed patio area too and a back lawn for the kids to play on Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. The space Can you tell I spent way too long living in a teensy shoebox with four other people? Re: What do you love about it?? 4Oct 08, 2009 5:10 pm The location and views. Hydronic Heating...probably the best thing we put in the house. My kitchen granite...I lovingly polish it every night admiring all the little patterns in it The Front Facade...I sometimes go out the door just to look at the front of the house...just like that roof ad The space and how decluttered it looks My ensuite at night with all the mood lighting and our shower. My carpet...pure wool and just so luxurious The floorboards (when they have been mopped) The colour of my front door...it just gives me so much joy to look at it (thankyou Michelle ) The childrens bedrooms...just so pretty with lovely outlooks and spacious with big windows. The wide hallways and high ceilings. Space to entertain just about everything I love about the house. All I need now are the final touches...wallpaper and beautiful curtains for some of the rooms. Mrs B Re: What do you love about it?? 5Oct 08, 2009 5:17 pm I love that the whole building process is over and I can relax!!!! Also.. I love my big shower, my deep bath and the alfresco area. Building with PD - Regent 23 Cascades on Clyde Estate HomeOne Building Thread - PCI Completed - 28th August. Handover - 11th September. Re: What do you love about it?? 7Oct 08, 2009 6:44 pm Just like Mrs B, hydronic heating. My colours, glad I went with what I like (grey, white, red) and not what other people like. My kitchen sink. But there are things I would do differently. Too much space to clean. Ceilings are too high. That sort of thing. Re: What do you love about it?? 8Oct 08, 2009 7:05 pm Mrs B The Front Facade...I sometimes go out the door just to look at the front of the house...just like that roof ad Phew! Thank goodness it's not just me who does that! Mrs B, if I had your granite, I'd be polishing it every night and just gazing at it too.... Re: What do you love about it?? 9Oct 09, 2009 8:14 pm We love the feeling as if we are still on holidays, and never going home (to our old place)! We also love the space, the deck, the space, the central heating, the space, the landscaping we've done ourselves, the space, our big telly in our big room, the space, everything else we didn't have before, and the space! As an aside, I found it interesting to read somewhere lately that a lot of people such as emptynesters downsize to a house that is as big as ours now! To us, 28 squares is huuuuuge! Did I mention that we love the space? Geoff - Decophile. Thank goodness it's not just me who does that! Mrs B, if I had your granite, I'd be polishing it every night and just gazing at it too.... I have to admit, I always admire the facade too.. Come on guys, fess up..! Re: What do you love about it?? 11Oct 10, 2009 7:18 am OK, so apart from THE SPACE I love: - Our parents' retreat. Our own special kid-free zone, where things stay where I put them and there are never dirty socks stuffed under the couch cushions. And of course, we have a lock on the door. - Our al fresco room. I'll love it even more once we get it decked or paved (we're arguing about this right now) and some landscaping done around it. The two big sets of bifold doors are about my favourite things in the whole world. - My laundry, with room to move and space to dry clothes - never, never again will I have a clothes horse in the middle of the lounge. - Our ensuite. I feel like I'm at a posh resort every time I go in there. I would feel the same about the kids' bathroom, but the maid service in there is lousy ....there are always wet towels on the floor, toothpaste on the mirror and nobody refills the handwash.... - Having a light in the pantry. Little things, eh? Re: What do you love about it?? 12Oct 10, 2009 8:51 am After having cooked a few meals now, I am really LOVING the space that a 900mm stop top provides AND the bench space that I now have to prepare food on 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Don't miss the extra pokey one we had in the rental or our small ensuite in the last house. laundry door- love having a proper backdoor instead of a sliding door in the laundry. Re: What do you love about it?? 14Oct 18, 2009 1:15 pm kexkez laundry door- love having a proper backdoor instead of a sliding door in the laundry. Just a quick question... do you mean an external sliding door in the laundry? What didn't you like about it? Our draftie has suggested it to allow more light into the laundry. Re: What do you love about it?? 15Oct 18, 2009 1:28 pm There have been threads about the pros and cons of glass sliding doors or normal hinged doors as external laundry doors. Myself, I am not a fan of glass sliding doors in laundries and we went for a hinged door - a few reasons - the washing trough can be flush against the wall, saveing space and avoiding the gap where the sliding door track goes which would get grotty and hard to clean, didnt want a large window looking into my laundry (this can be solved by getting obscure glass though), wanted a pet flap in the door, easy DIY job with wooden door. We have a small window above the trough and a half window in the door itself, room faces west and is certainly not too dark. Anyway, back to the original question: I love haveing an ensuite haveing a WIR my garden (manageable size) my outdoor area modern floor plan (as oppossed to previous house which was built in 1959) internal entry from garage Re: What do you love about it?? 16Oct 18, 2009 2:31 pm My house has not even started being built yet, but i already know the thing i will love the most is that even though it is not my 'dream house', the land or house isnt as big as i would eventually like, is that its mine! I will love knowing that im not paying off someone elses mortgage but paying off my own. Re: What do you love about it?? 17Oct 18, 2009 5:51 pm I keep meaning to reply on this thread I love.... - our big back room - family/kitchen/dining with corner bifolds to deck - the deck... with built in seating (bbq bought today too!) - our ensuite... double spa, double shower - lovely white, bright kitchen with heaps of storage and huge island - internal access from garage - the little things are nice! Pretty much everything! I really haven't wished we had chosen anything differently in terms of layout or colours. So pretty happy with that. I am hoping to one day soon say I love all our plants and rest of the outdoor area.... that is our next project! We have a small window above the trough and a half window in the door itself, room faces west and is certainly not too dark. All of her responses fit ours. I actually suspect we would have been required to have a changed to a standard door anyway due to new zoning/ eco rules within our shire since I know of another person who built at the same time as us who was required to change their slider to a normal door. My only regret is not putting in a separate window. ( we were talked out of it as being too expensive.) if we had our time again I'd insist on a separate window as well. Great to allow for ventilation. We also had the drama of not being able to add a dog door in our last house which had the standard glass sliding door in the laundry. Which at the time was annoying as well. Covering the slider for privacy is a pain in the b### on normal suburban properties. And if you get too much light in the laundry becomes a heat trap. But the biggest bug bear was certainly the amount of dirty and "urk" that gets stuck between the fixed glass section and the trough or bench space next to it. Re: What do you love about it?? 19Oct 18, 2009 6:37 pm kexkez .....the biggest bug bear was certainly the amount of dirty and "urk" that gets stuck between the fixed glass section and the trough or bench space next to it. dirty and "urk" - yep, that's the technical term for it.
