As usual, perfect timing. The roadworks from Gordons Rd to Hawkstowe Pde will be starting soon too. Should make it a really pleasant drive along Plenty Rd. NOT.

Mernda Villages 2047Jul 31, 2010 11:58 pm lisanne And why not do the train line NOW while they are already doing works... And extend down to Mernda at least. How could a state government announce plans to extend the outer boundaries of the metropolitan area and extend a rail way line such a small distance only. It should be extended to the outer boundary. I wish we had a viable, sensible (= do what I think they should be doing) alternative to the two major parties. They're the two faces of the one coin. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2048Jul 31, 2010 11:59 pm lisanne Fiffaro added intersection lights More fricken lights??? Whoops. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2049Aug 01, 2010 10:44 am lisanne Fiffaro added intersection lights More fricken lights??? Agree. All the years that we lived in Mill Park, I used to be able to get to my hairdresser's house in Mernda in SIX MINUTES. That same trip now takes almost twenty... The traffic lights are ridiculous. The timing is poor and there are just too many (and whoever's idea it was to add those lights at Old Plenty Rd should be shot, especially sequenced the way they are). Not to mention the lack of slip lanes at every major intersection - what is the POINT of a left-turn arrow from McDonalds Rd into Plenty Rd when there's no left-turn LANE? I sit there umpteen times a week behind someone heading straight across to Gorge Rd while the green arrow comes and goes and nobody gets to use it. I'm dreading the roadworks. Winslow made a dog's breakfast of the duplication from Centenary Drive to Gordons Rd. The construction time blew out by over a year and the major retailers along that stretch (Maccas, HJs, Bunnings and Woolworths) took legal action, they lost so much trade. Then council decided to do major works on both McDonalds and Gordons Rd before Plenty Rd was finished. What were they thinking??? It was total chaos. lisanne And why not do the train line NOW while they are already doing works... Money, of course. Successive state goverments have made us wait over 30 years for the rail extension we're getting. It was promised back in the 70s.... Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2050Aug 01, 2010 11:01 am Saw the sign yesterday, at the corner of Yan Yean and Bridge Inn Roads. Wonder when the coles is finished whether they will put lights in at this intersection or leave it as a roundabout? I do feel sorry for the small corner store who has been trading for many years. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2051Aug 01, 2010 6:03 pm I actually find the traffic very good around here, compared to other parts of Melbourne. For example I just drove to the footy and it took me 35mins to get from Laurimar to the multi level carpak at Harbour Town. In peak traffic in the morning it takes me 50mins to get there. The combination of hume fwy, ring rd and tulla are the least busiest freeways in Melb. Eastern is a nightmare once you get to hoddle st or alexander pde, Monash is a carpark and the west gate is nothing short of a disgrace. If you have never lived anywhere apart from this area then I can understand your frustrations but in reality we have it better than most outer suburbs. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2053Aug 01, 2010 6:30 pm kek What on earth do you drive, WBA? A lear jet? I wish.. nah in peak just stay away from plenty rd.. I go across to the hume fwy.. takes 13mins to get to the hume and then it is smooth sailing from there.. If there wasn't any road works on the ring rd then it would be even quicker. I have a trip timer in my territory and from hazel glen drv to turning into harbour town (right next to costco) was 35mins. In fact some days I drive to kensington train station and exit at flemington rd and the only part of my trip that has traffic build up is the ring rd and even then it doesn't take that long to get through. Mernda Villages 2055Aug 01, 2010 9:30 pm Bam WBA, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find the quickest way for me to get to work - from MV to Bell St, Preston (near the McDonalds) depends on what time you leave.. if you leave before 7.30am then plenty rd and turning left at kingsbury rd and then going either waterdale or waiora rd should be fine.. if you leave closer to 8am then probably driving down bridge inn rd to yan yean rd would be better.. then turn right on diamond creek rd.. follow greensborough hwy.. go down lower heidelberg rd and then turn right onto bell... those were the two ways I always drove there.. and I drove near there (mercy hospital) every day in peak for 3 months and never took me more than 40mins in morning peak. Once they build the fwy from ring rd to eastern that trip would be quicker but who knows when that will happen with this government. Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! As I work pretty much there too. Though more in the St Georges Rd section Re: Ladies and Gents, step right up! Mernda Villages 2058Aug 02, 2010 11:53 am If you are talking the Bell St Macca's at St Georges Road then I'd be trying BRidge Inn Road to Epping Road and then straight south from there which turns into High St and then into Spring St and then onto St Georges Road. I have to say though that I have no idea of the traffic along there in the morning but it would be the straightest route and one worth trying... another could be Plenty Road, Turn right at Gordon's and weave through the back st's to the council buildings and then down to Child's Road which you could take to Dalton Road and then Take Dalton Road down to Keon Park and then Cheddar to the Reservoir train st and cross over to Spring St that way or don't turn at Cheddar and keep going to Keon Park train station and turn left onto High St which turns into Spring. Mernda Villages 2059Aug 02, 2010 11:56 am Most direct Lisanne - but the Reservoir/Preston traffic at that hour will just about send you over the edge . I do take that route during the day if I need to get there, but not in the peak hour and definitely not school hours (which are worse then peak hour!).
