Not a tiler here but a builder. We screed our entire ground floors as a matter of practice and just finished one yesterday, so I have a little experience. Screed by it's nature can be a bit flaky and at this time of year as the weather is cooling, it is taking a good 4-5 days to dry. After a couple of days it should be firming up enough to walk on gently. I would say that if it hasn't gone hard in 48 hours you have failed. Let me know if you want a photo of what it should look like cheers Simeon Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice. Re: Screed First Timer 3May 03, 2024 10:38 am thanks Simeon, I will check it again tomorrow afternoon (which will be 48hrs). Our mixture was 2 buckets of sand, half bucket cement and 3L of water. Any thoughts on these ratios? Re: Screed First Timer 4May 03, 2024 12:50 pm renovator_me thanks Simeon, I will check it again tomorrow afternoon (which will be 48hrs). Our mixture was 2 buckets of sand, half bucket cement and 3L of water. Any thoughts on these ratios? Your sand and cement ratio is fine. With the water it is hard to be precise as it depends on the water content of the sand. This is generally done by eye. So you are looking for a slightly damp powdery mixture, not too wet and not too dry, but generally more like a damp sand that can be moulded into a shape....if that makes sense Architectural Homes & Duplexes - specialising in custom designing homes to your budget Get a Free Onsite Consultation Today or send a PM for information, questions or advice.
