Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 17, 2023 10:04 am Hi l have a pressure pump connected to a rainwater tank supplying my house, sometimes but not often maybe once every half hour or everyhour the pump turns on for ten or 30 seconds when theres no taps or water use inside the house, is that normal and nothing to worry about or should l get a plumber to check it, my only real fear is if theres a leak in the internal pipes hidden behind the walls that could damage the wooden sub floor, would that be very unlikely? if there was does insurance companies pay for that Re: pressure pump sometimes turns on is that normal 2Aug 17, 2023 10:12 am Loss of pressure will cause pump to come on. It could be a fault in the pipe or a fault in the pump. Yes you should check it out. HOw can l confirm first theres a problem , l was thinking if l watch the pump for an hour without using any water inside the house and if it doesnt turn on by itself in an hour does that mean theres no problem ?, how many hours would l need to monitor it for to confirm theres no problem? If it turns on by itself just once or twice a day for ten seconds could that be considered normal or a problem that needs to be checked Re: pressure pump sometimes turns on is that normal 4Aug 17, 2023 10:35 am Have a look in your sub floor, if there is no dampness you are OK Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: pressure pump sometimes turns on is that normal 5Aug 17, 2023 10:47 am building-expert Have a look in your sub floor, if there is no dampness you are OK thnaks, its not possible for me to crawl under the houseto check the subfloor l would have to pay someone to do so. what do you think of the idea l make sure theres no water use inside the house and l sit outside and watch the pump for an hour , if it doesnt turn on in an hour does that mean theres no probelm or should l watch it longer then an hour to confirm theres no problem.do you think that would an effective way to test if theres a problem ? Re: pressure pump sometimes turns on is that normal 6Aug 17, 2023 11:55 am Is the pump also connected to an outside tap? If so, you could fit a pressure gauge to monitor the pressure but for sure, it will be a pressure drop aka leak. Have you checked the water level in the cistern? It could be slowly filling. You would pay big time to get a plumber and they would only check what you can anyway. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using siphonic drainage. Thanks. no there no tap connected to it outside and l checked the toiltet cistem they fill normally, there an outdoor hot water system next to the pump l wonder if was the hot water tank filling that cause the pump to run, my plan is to keep an eye on the pump and if it keeps turning on when theres no taps on in the house, then l will get a plumber . l have only noticed it happen once or twice this morning so it could have been a one off,if l notice it happen a few more times then l will call a plumber First time building 2 storey home, is under construction (in Framing stage) in NSW.
