Hi All!
Our builder has just sent through the working drawings from the cabinet maker for our custom kitchen. We have noticed that the drawer depths on our 750mm deep bench are only 500mm deep. We queried this with the builder, this is their response:
"The cabinetmaker is working through all the items, and I am hoping to have this back with all pricing on Monday.
In the meantime, they have advised that if you would like to increase the depth of the drawers above standard (500mm), then they need to upgrade to much more expensive components, as the standard runner system isn’t manufactured deeper than 500mm.
So, the following pricing would apply:
12x Drawers up to 650 deep will cost an extra $2,892 (incl GST)
This would be the 3x 4 drawer banks along the back wall of the Kitchen - the drawer under the Oven can only go to 600mm deep, due to the higher side runners required only being made that deep.
4x Drawers up to 600 deep will cost an extra $656 (incl GST)
This would be the drawer under the oven, and 3x drawers under and to the left of the Dishwasher (the drawer under the sink cannot be made deeper, due to the plumbing)
If you would like to go ahead with the drawer upgrade, please advise and I will draft a variation."
We are shocked that this was not included in the quote we received through the builder over a year ago. It has never been asked or mentioned, and this is the first time we have seen a detailed drawing to notice it.
Is it normal that drawer depths stay at 500mm when bench depths are increased?
Thanks for any advice
