I contacted Blue Haven back in Mid Mar 2022 to build a lap pool with 12 meter x 3 meter with depth of 1 meter on one side and 1.4 meter at deep side. Primary interaction with Blue Haven Sales consultant "Roy" was really good. He spent good 2-3 hours with us understood our requirement and created a good bundle for us. I straight away signed up the contract with Blue Haven since I have done quite good research in the market across Fiberglass and Concrete and found them quite budget friendly (Still expensive then Fiberglass). 8 weeks later (As of today) I have CDC approval in place for the pool and I am awaiting further advise from the pre-construction team to confirm the way forward. Key learnings until today about Blue Haven: 1. Whatever you want to negotiate do it during your Sales discussion. Any variation after that will be fairly expensive. 2. Blue Haven quote dose not consider the following so do plan for them on your own:
3. The quote of Blue Haven consider coping of 200 mm and you will not find standard tiles for Coping thus do negotiate on 400 mm coping. 4. You need to follow up consistently for them to move with speed. (Experience as of now. Hopefully this will improve in furture) Since, I have missed all the leverage for negotiation due to being excited about signing the contract and thought Blue Haven will be flexible post that which is not the case afterwards. At the moment i am awaiting for the pre-construction team to contact me for next steps on the build. I will post next update as soon as I hear back from Blue Haven. On top of it I have provisioned approx $10K for few upgrades e.g. jets, lights additional pump. Additional cost I am expecting below: 1. Tipping fees - approx 10K 2. Hardscaping around Pool (concrete and Tiling) - apprpx $21K 3. Glass balustrade fencing - $7K 4. Electrician and Plumber - $2K 5. Pool heating - $4500 6. Enclosure for pool equipments- $2K 7. Misc budget for landscaping - $20K Thanks Vin Ashington Homes vin83 Hello Team, I am starting this thread to for the purpose to share the journey of concrete pool building with Blue Havens. I am hoping that I should get call asap since next 4 weeks weather seems no rain and good for construction else God knows how long it will take once the rain starts. Got contacted by my Construction project manager "Adam" in regards of commencing the construction. In frst instance Adam sounds nice fellow and provided me the fair idea on how the work expected to go from there. Basis on the discussion following the plan look like: 1. Excavation & Temp Fencing erected - 18th July (Adam will be helping me to arrange the tipping vendor on the excavation day) 2. Steel + Concreting - 28th July (Ned 3 to 4 weeks to cure the pool) 3. Pool Coping - 9th Aug 4. Land Scaping + Glass fencing (By other vendors) - 14th Aug to 20th Aug 5. Equipment's delivery + Pool interior - 1st week of Sep to Mid Sep followed by Water In and Council inspection I am hopeful that by Mid Oct I should be able to get a swim in my pool (Provided Blue Haven remain on time and Rain not to impact any more). So far my experience have been amazing with Blue Haven construction and pre-construction team. Adam, Fouad, Jimmy, Mimi .. All were extremely helpful in updates and providing guidance on how to make best of the construction planning. Excavation was booked in for 19th July but got call from Adam (Construction Project Manager) checking if he can start work a day early due to forecasted rain and I was all ok with it. Luckily, I ordered the Portable Loo on 18th July itself, so no hassle from the trades people for nature breaks. Excavation took almost two days and Blue Havens Trade people did pretty decent job with clearing out the site as much as possible by end of the day. Steel and Gravel have arrived on site so expecting Steel mesh preparation will happen right after rain finishes. For now, temporary fences has erected so my dogs are pretty happy as they have got the access of backyard again Now I am looking forward for the Concreting that is booked for 29th July hopefully, the weather stays bright and nice. I have aligned the contractors for other land scaping job while the pool will under go for curing. So all in all as per plan by 30th Aug, I should be in a state to have Pool Concreting done and remaining hardscaping around the pool (Concrete + Tiling + Glass Fencing) done. Boys who worked on the site today were highly professional. They completed the job, did good cleaning outside and then left. Tomorrow plumbing work has been scheduled and day after Concreting. So hopefully all to be done and dusted by this weekend. Trade people came back on site and completed the Plumbing and concreting and now I am waiting for the Pool company Tilers to come and complete the coping. This will allow me to line in my trade people for landscaping surrounding the pool. Plumbing people came in right the day after formwork completed. However, there was slight delay in concreting (3-4 days not much) however once the people came it was a single day job and after 8 hours of effort team were able to complete the shotcrete work. Now I am pretty much working with my electrician and Plumber to do the required jobs meanwhile waiting for Blue Haven to confirm their tiler availability. The Concrete is now in curing process so idea is to get the tiling done by Blue Haven and then I will get my electricals, basic Plumbing, Hardscaping, rest of area tiling & glass fencing to be done before Blue Haven come and commence inside FInish and connecting the pool equipment's. Got the electricals and require plumbing work completed followed by Tile coping and Concreting. Tile coping yet to be completed. It was frustrating that though I ordered the required tiles but somehow it was not adequate. Now I am waiting for the tile company to supply the same coping stones so Coping can be completed. At the moment site is mess but will share more photos in 2 weeks time. If able to complete the Coping tiles this week, will line up tiler for rest of the area and then glass fencing. Update as of now - After surrounding tiles been done, I also got my Boundary fence height extended to follow the compliance as well installation of glass fencing completed. Got some good contractors to support Electricals, Plumbing, Fencing (Colorbond and Glass) & Tiling. This was the time, I notified Blue Havens that they can resume the work. 1st the Blue Haven pool equipment arrived and installation done. While I looked at the size of pool equipment I realized I have done big mistake in selecting the space the pool equipment will go as they are massive and cannot fit in the standard pool equipment enclosure. Due to ongoing rain the internal lining work got delayed. However, the 4 days of clear weather forecast and Blue Haven team arrived on site. Did the Acid wash of pool inside and then performed the Pebblecrete work. Total took three ays of work and now pool is in process of filling water. Pool equipments will be made function probably sometime this week (hopefully rain wont be delaying the same) During this period I also got into some of projects to complete the decking myself, installation of Awning roller blind. I am also trying to build the pool equipment enclosure myself. As of yet it looks awful but with time will go for the finishing touches . I have used James Hardie external weatherboard to build the same. Will share more photos once completed. Thanks for your insights… I was looking at their packages but was a bit weary. Any other lessons learnt? Hey Chris, thanks mate. Learnings were fairly straight forward: 1. Whatever you want to negotiate do it during your Sales discussion. Any variation after that will be fairly expensive. 2. Blue Haven quote dose not consider the following as standard so do plan for them on your own or if you want have that negotiated on subsidized cost:
3. The quote of Blue Haven consider coping of 200 mm and you will not find standard tiles for Coping thus do negotiate on 400 mm coping. Because 200 mm size tiles are non standard and may become expensive if you are planning to do big area. 4. Build good relationship with the Pre Construction and Construction team and follow up consistently for them to move with speed. Last, if you are flexible in regards of their trade people to come on short notice, that will move your work quick. As if the trades get free from some site they always prefer to do one more same day. In general their package prices are really good. As well their Trade people are really good and I cant complaint anything at all. My experience in person have been fantastic with them so far. If you have anything specific let me know and I will try to share my experience with you. CHeers Vivek Vin Reply Reply Like Share More Sign in or Join to reply to this Topic End
