Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Concrete slab question 3Aug 07, 2021 12:15 pm Structural.Review TTTx Hi guys, We are currently at the framing stage. I drove pass the site today and found out a strange thing. The guys add bit more concrete by hand on the front side of the existing slab. To me it seems because the concrete has already poured is not long enough for the frame. So they must add some more so the frame is not sit in the air. See the photos. Anyone have the similar situation? Or my assumption is wrong? Thanks! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ is the frame sitting on the new concrete ? Our site manager said the frame is slightly over the old base. I have the concern that this will affect the building structure in the future. Re: Concrete slab question 4Aug 07, 2021 1:38 pm I think it is more important that frame edge stays on top of the footings, not slab. Did they extend footings or just the slab? This is called construction joint and generally not a very good thing to have. How did they do reinforcement in this slab extensions? I would rather make a call to re-work/adjust the frame. Re: Concrete slab question 6Aug 07, 2021 6:42 pm Go in with your site supervisor. Get plenty of photos with measurements to cover yourself and ask the builder to advise in writing how this 'fix' is engineered and confirm its appropriate. If their response is unsatisfactory then formally, as per the contract proceedure, raise your concerns. Dont wait until your next progress payment is invoiced. I have the concern that this will affect the building structure in the future. The new concrete is unreinforced non structural concrete, if the frame is overhanging from old slab, you need to ask how much is overhanging and if it is outside tolerances, they need to provide proper rectification, the new concrete has 0 capacity to take overhang loads The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5807 yep, clearly mark where the infloor heating pipes are before drilling or nailing 1 6337 Building Standards; Getting It Right! is this for a residential dwelling or a shed?
