Dilemma going on. We are looking at buying an older house, one of the old commission/defence force homes, built in Ipswich QLD in about the 70's. So of course, there is fibro thought the house - ceiling, walls, inside and out. It appears to be in good condition. So not too worried there.
The problem is - if we want to extend and add another 2 rooms out the back, we will need to remove the fibro. And if we are doing to do that, then we're looking at removing ALL the fibro in the house to put in the extra ceiling lights, move some doors, bascially fix all the things we can live with but would prefer not to.
Cut and paste of the house plan attached. Any idea on how much it would cost to remove all the asbestos, and then how much to put back in the ceiling, walls, do weatherboard cladding around the house, put the lights in etc. It's pretty well a rebuild except the frame is already there. I had read somewhere that the frame is probably the most expensive bit.
The extension can wait if need be but if we are just redoing over the same without big room changes, are the costs down because don't need a certifyer etc. Just the usual waterproofing/hot water system/gas certifications would be needed.
