Now I don't need to watch the highlights....

We only watched the first hour and a half - had to get to bed. Stupid Earth and its stupid time zones.

Stupid time zones - very annoying they are!

Since this thread used to be about French recipes (!), Lisa I'm just wondering if you pay any attention to the concoctions that Gabrielle Gate comes up with during the telecast?

Yeah I do sometimes, but I find him very annoying - that's not his real accent anymore and it's only in the last year or two that he has actually started filming in France - all the wine stuff is filmed at crown casino and last nights belgian beer thing was at the belgian beer cafe on St Kilda road in Melbourne yet they try to pass it off as being overseas - it irritates me

And it's not even close to live considering he cooked dinner for a friend at the friend's house in Melbourne last night.

I love duck.......we don't have a supplier down here of duck meat. I have to buy frozen from the supermarket if I decide to cook it as a treat for DH!

What are you doing with your duck?

I'm making a cassoulet and it has duck in it - it's about 2/3 the price of the entire dish!

What about french onion soup... 2 kg of onions for $4 and $22 for Gruyere cheese to grate over the top!!

It's so delicious on a cold winter day, or evening. But it does give you the farts though.

Yeah it was funny, wasn't it?

Back to your recipes, and talking about duck etc; Have you ever eaten goose?

I don't think I have
MIL used to cook them occasionally, no special recipe though, just roasted like a chicken and sprinkled with a bit of Season-all or something.

They taste nice and gamey and because they are a large bird they are easy to carve etc, unlike duck or small chooks that can be a bit finicky to dish up. The drumsticks almost reach across the plate! I expect they would be a bit hard to find now, but if you (or anyone) can get a duck from a supplier that is not a supermarket freezer, they should be able to source geese as well.

Not entirely French I guess, but definitely a food from Europe (DW's parents are/were Hungarian).
Today I cooked Cassoulet! (http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/17927/cassoulet)

It really doesn't look that great, but WOW what a taste!!!

hehe it didn't look anything like I expected under the breadcrumbs, but I'm going to tweak it a bit for next time, less liquid will help to make it thicker to start with
