I am pulling up an old, old thread. But what about a pet's forum? By that I mean in relation to building, renovation and gardens etc. Poisonous plants, cat runs, etc, etc, etc.

There's been heaps of pet related questions and they are scattered all over the place in every other forum and it's difficult to search for info. It would be really convenient to chuck them in the one place.
Majority of us have pets and would probably get something out of it and/or contribute.

I see Jason on so what do you think boss?

What about everyone else?

Jo
Sounds fine with me....

Let's keep this post up and running for a week and see what others come back with.

Thanks for your suggestion.
These are all good suggestions but can I be the spanner in the works by saying it gets too time consuming to navigate if there are too many different sections, breaking everything into more and more specialisised sections isn't neccesarily good, IMHO.
hey hey,

just throwing one in for fun...how about creating a forum just dedicated on house blogs...by this i mean, most ppl have a thread that they have created to document their journey of building their house....maybe instead of having it in the "Building a New House" forum, there should be a dedicate area for it? or not...i suppose threads on building new houses belongs in "building a new house"...

duno just a thought...

i think i need a coffee
Newbies, remember not everyone has a blog though; I know I don't and am happy just posting my house building story in my thread in the "building new houses" section, which seems a mixture of such threads and questions/comments specifically related to new houses which don't belong in any other particular section.

I still think it complicates matters by making more and more specialised sections.
I think the sections we have cover all relevant topics and coffee break is there for everything else.

JMO, of course
How about those that aren't building a new house, but have bought established and are progressively doing it up.....seems that General Discussion is the only place we can post.....mind you I don't really use the first page....."view posts since last visit" is all I use as I'm a sticky beak......

I second that

I think this is a great idea Newbies. Sometimes I just want to catch up on everyone's houses, and it would be great to not have to trawl through the rest of the topics in Building A New House to find them. I already miss a lot of them!
Builder’s forum!

Let’s give them their own forum to back themselves up with!

While many run around in here saying this and that about their builders…..I think they have a right to TRY and defend themselves…..if they can.

Why not give them a space to do so…..I personally welcome all the builders to have their say on what is being said about them and to explain the reasons why certain things are done the way they are in their building business.

What do you all think?
Tonights recent roof/brick colour dilemma has inspired this suggestion

How about a new forum called something like "Exterior Colours Gallery"? I envisage this forum to have two subforums (if it's workable), one for Bricks and the other for Roofing and it would work something like this:

Say l'm deciding on my brick colour and l like the look of Hawthorn by Austral. I would go to the External Colours Gallery and then click on the Brick subforum. In that subforum l would see threads dedicated to each colour brick (one per brick only). I find the "Hawthorn - Austral" thread and when l go into it, l see that all the members who have built in that brick have posted their pics of their fascades as well as listing the following colour info:

Mortar -
Roof -
Gutter -
Fascia -
Windows -
Render -

and any other external colours used.

As such, l will have access to pics and colour details used with that brick colour all in the one place, rather than scouring a heap of blogs and threads looking for pics and trying to compare them.

The roofing subforum would work the same way, have one dedicated thread per roof colour and the brick colour would be noted in the additional colours list. So if l am thinking of choosing Colorbond - Loft (
) but am not sure what brick to go for or would like to see how my chosen brick looks with it, l can go to that thread and see all the pics of other peoples homes who have used it and see how it looks.

I think that a new "exterior colours gallery" (or whatever you want to call it)would be a very beneficial addition to the H1 forum. It would help people in deciding and comparing external colours, expecially those who live in rural/remote areas who may not have the time or access to a large number of new estates to physically go and inspect homes themselves.

What do ya think?

nope ... they have all the power anyway
How come page 3 says it doesnt exist?
In regards to Thornys suggestion.

how about a forum that is exterior photoshop requests.

There are lots of threads where people have requested photo shop help to see what the exterior of there house will look like. It would be good to have them all grouped together in the same forum.

Thanks
have been looking for building forums for months now this seam to be the only one around besides people's personal blogs.

also trying to research more on Insulated Concrete Forms.. doesnt seam to be much support here in australia, lots in america though.

l've noticed heaps of photoshop threads too (l did one myself the other day, lol) Having a specific photoshop forum is a great idea and would fit nicely with the new exterior colours forum.

Oh and admin, l also thought that having 2 roofing subforums, one for colorbond and one for tiles, l think that it work better than just the one roof section
I was only thinking the Gallery idea the other day. Thorney what a good idea

People ask for advice on what they should do with their gardens , driveways decks ect
How about doing individual galleries for gardens decking , driveways , Alfrescos, everyone who has established their gardens driveways ect or in the middle of doing them could post their pics there. including costs of materials.

Yup, that is a great idea!

I think that it might be easier to put it under one subforum (with the Bricks, Tiles and Phtotshops) and then have threads related to each relevant subject (gardens, driveways etc), you think?

Oh and newbies, just read your suggestion too! Great idea too!
The "building your own home" forum is massive and things get buried so quickly with all the array of topics! So by having a dedicated section where all the "l'm building a such-and-such home" threads are (still in the building you home forum though), it will make it easier for people to find, catch up on and follow the progress of other peoples builds.
Australia and New Zealand's Home Building Resource still has nuttin' for people who bought established...
...the "Building, Renovation and Maintenance" section doesn't really have a "Renovation" section except for renovation of bits.

And I like the gallery idea...where you can dump photo ideas...I use this a lot in other forums...fora....forii...forumeses...particularly gardening ones...and maybe a section for useful links...people find a link to a good website with ideas and it gets lost in time.

And in general this forum lacks some of the slickness of some other fora which might get around some of the search issues...but I guess that's a $ issue more than a technology one.

In this forum we often rightly criticise builders....

In Victoria you cannot put a caveat on arising from a domestic building contract.
