Kitchen bench top grooves for sink

Hello
I’m finalising kitchen design for my house and I have undermount sink on stone 20mm benchtop.

I would like to know if it’s a good idea to get grooves on either side of sink. Builder is suggesting it’s not something people opt for.

It can chip easier, is harder to clean and just doesn't look as seamless.
