Hi everyone, Tim here from WA and I am looking to build a new home in Bicton on a block I have just bought. Has an old house to be demolished first. This site seems pretty cool, so hopefully I can join the community. Tim

Hello, just wanted to say I am liking how your house turned out - it looks great. I was also hoping I might be able to ask if you have any more photos of the house from the back. We are considering similar bricks for our house, but we do not want any render, so would like to see a slice of your hous...

Building A New House

Hello, for our proposed build, I am keen on Brikmakers Vintage Red bricks with a white mortar. Naturally the builder is telling us the white mortar costs more. My question then, is does this sound right? Why should white mortar cost more? And if it should, for a typical 4x2 brick house, how much ext...

Tiling Costs?
Building A New House

Hi all, just wondering what you all have been quoted for extra tiling in your builds. Our builder, National Homes, is quoting $160/m2 for any extra 200x200 tiles in the bathrooms. Does this seem right? It does feel a little steep to me. And does anyone suggest getting the extra tiling done after han...

Thx for the replies everyone. Would anyone recommend getting the builder to just supply the standard tile coverage, and then add the rest yourself later? Any downside to this?

Thanks for the replies. I will give the visualiser a try, tho I think the homes it offers look generally too fancy to properly reflect a simple single story dwelling. Dannislade, what colours are you using and do you have any color sketches? Thanks again.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has used a builder that provides a proper schedule with a Gantt chart to track the build? I have spoken to a couple builders and none seem to even know what a Gantt chart is!!! Does not fill me with confidence that any time schedule will be kept. Thanks

Are you an engineer by any chance? If so, don't expect a house build to run the same way a project does. I know it should and I could discuss at length all the things I think are wrong with the building industry, but I don't have all day! Guilty as charged. My last project was a multi-million dolla...

We are building with National. Well, we are still in "Admin" phase and it is going very slowly ..... We chose them however because the house plan suited our needs and our block the best, plus the sales guy has been excellent. Just need admin to pull their finger out!!

Hi everyone. So we (wife and I) have just signed a contract with National Homes (yesterday) to formally begin our new house build. Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, we are quite pleased with the plan, I think it will be a good functional house. Hi all, so just sent in our preliminary selections and no we are waiting to get a pre-start date booked in. It's a funny process as you get no idea about what any possible upgrades etc will cost, so we just went to town and added most things we think we would like, but then expect to have to reverse...
