Wow - it's been a while between drinks around here, so time for an update. My house achieved Lock Up status in late Feb, approx 5 months after the siteworks began. In the scheme of things that is prolly not too bad, tho of course is slower than advertised. At least something does appear to happen ea...

Yes, I think Windspray would be too light for bricks such as we have. We did consider Wallaby, but there is a bit too much green tinge in it for mine. Remember, that the roof colour you choose will seem much lighter when installed than it does on the colour chips.

Hi nelleebellee (that's a lot of e's!) So actually, the roof just went on last Thursday. The build has been going OK with the first run of electrical and plumbing mostly done (some small electrical errors, but no biggies), and now the roof is on. I presume the first internal render might start soon....

Hi everyone (and mum :D ). I have some more progress pictures to share. As of today, the brickwork is prolly 95% complete, and the roof carpentry is maybe 90% done. Pretty happy with this progress. http://i67.tinypic.com/11cecmo.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/15ckeqa.jpg http://i68.tinypic.com/2vl8pz6.j...

Hi SBG, I had a chat with the bricklayer about this and he showed me your Option 3 (Waterproof cement parging) being used. The colour of it is a sort of creamy colour, so it does not really stand out in the photos. It is a different colour to the slab, and the regular cream mortar so it is visible. ...

We considered all the same roof colours as you. We chose Basalt because we thought Windspray might be too light a colour, and Wallaby has a green tinge to it I did not think would match the rest of the house. I did read somewhere that roofs tend to look lighter than the colour they really are becaus...

Thanks for the comment nelleebellee. The brick colour is BGC Minilya. The roof colour will be Colorbond Basalt. We did umm and ahhh on the roof colour quite a lot (it was going to be Surfmist at one point) but I think it should look OK with the grey. We do have white window frames and white gutters,...

So the last 3 weeks have not been too bad. Power has been run, the storm drains installed, site cleaned, and the bricks delivered. http://i61.tinypic.com/2zf4vub.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/2n00zl1.jpg That said I was told the brick laying would start this week, but that does not seemed to have happe...

So now it feels like it's actually happening :) We have a slab. Super Yays all around!! And boy the build has progressed so very well to this point. I visited the site at lunch today wondering if anything might be happening and I was so pleasantly surprised to find Bodi and his team just finessing t...

So things appear to be actually moving now, which is great. Let us hope the momentum keeps up. The siteworks are done, and the slab is happening. Below you can see that the footings are done and maybe a slab tomorrow. http://i60.tinypic.com/210huoj.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/33tpd9f.jpg

Can you believe it? Because I can't. After a mammoth 410 days since we paid our first deposit to National Homes, the siteworks has finally started. We were starting to wonder if we would still be alive when this date came around, but it seems we are. So yay. Here's hoping we can last to the very end...

Hi everyone. It's time for another update. So we got all the above issues sorted out and now have planning approval. The solution to the parking issue was to have a 6m wide crossover and a 12m wide driveway - enough room to do a reverse 3-pointer. The garage door is also 6m wide. http://i58.tinypic....

I think sometimes it is because they don't do any drawings. Often the roof detail just gets called up as make roof per the relevant Australian Standard. The roof carpenters just do it from that. However, if any structural beams are required, they would be detailed in some manner.

Hey W2T, no action as yet. Still stuck at the council approval stage :( It's a bit disappointing really. There are two issues that have caught us out. The first is that apparently the Main Roads Dept re-classified our street as a main road, and as such decided that we are not allowed to reverse out ...

OK, so time for an update. These have not been very regular so far, but then again, things are moving so slowly I barely even notice them happening. The big news is that the block I bought has been finally cleared, with the very old 2x1 house completely gone. Thanks to Swift Demolition for that. You...

Lighting through the builder is extremely expensive - IE a $70 downlight somehow costs nearly $400 from the builder! Some things though are reasonable like power points were there or abouts the same as you would pay to an electrician. This right here scares the bejesus out of me. Somehow it seems u...
