Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows what sort of globe I need for this light fitting: http://oi39.tinypic.com/i3yptz.jpg http://oi40.tinypic.com/34g0qrc.jpg At first I thought it took a fluoro with a standard G23 base , but then I realised the pin holes in this particular socket are off-center, so th...

Our 12sqm tiled front porch is largely exposed to rain and has tiles that get can quite slippery when wet. At the moment we have on it a thin rubber mat leading to the doorway (like a red carpet), but it looks a bit crude and doesn't stay put on windy days. It seems there are various chemical treatm...

Anyone know how to get around this procedural catch-22? - If you rivet the pop/nozzle into position first, it gets in the way of the downpipe, preventing it being raised into position. - If you raise the downpipe into position first, it doesn't leave enough clearance for the rivet gun to be aimed st...

Thanks again for the advice. You guys were right on the money about applying more pressure. Although the self-drilling screws still had trouble punching through, they did make a much bigger impression this time and when I reached for the drill bit, it finished the job in seconds. Very different from...

Got up bright and early this morning to get the new gate hinge mounted before work, but as usual I've turned a simple idiot-can-do-it job into a DIY fail :? For fastening the hinge to the metal frame, I decided to give the self-drilling screws a try first, but they barely made an impression on the m...

Why not use nuts & bolts like the current ones? Guess the pic's a bit misleading - the top hinge has one nut and bolt, one screw, what appears to be a bolt with its nut missing, and one hole containing no fastener (looks a bit ** overall). Bottom hinge is secured with 4 screws. Are nuts and bot...

I need to replace a gate hinge or two: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/742/gatehinge.jpg http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5523/gatehinge2.jpg I'm ok with the wood side of it but I'm a noob at driving screws through metal. Any opinions on whether the self-drilling types like these are good for t...

Being a first timer I went with the adjustable offset, but yeah, the extra overlap means it doesn't look quite as good as the roll-your-own type. Turns out I do have one unanticipated problem removing the pop - I can't drill the rivets out because the pop gets in the way of the drill, putting it at ...

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately the existing wall plugs for the straps aren't in a position to support the adjustable offset directly. I made a diagram which shows how everything will fit: http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/6238/downpipe.png So in terms of installation procedure I can't really see...

I need to remove a rectangular metal downpipe pop as it's going to get in the way when raising the assembled replacement downpipe into position (I plan to assemble the downpipe on the ground so that the rivets that secure the overlaps are hidden on the wall side). The pop is secured by two rivets, b...

Thanks for the help. I went to Bunnings and while they have all the parts (1800/2400mm downpipe lengths, adjustable offsets, nozzles, astragals) they're in plain zinc only and they can't order in Colorbond. The Lysaght website's where-to-buy section ended up pointing me in the right direction.

I've been tasked with replacing a rusty rectangular downpipe for an elderly relative. My initial searching brings up plenty of info that should help me figure out how to do it. But there's not as much info on where I can buy the downpipe, straps, etc. Any suggestions on where to buy the materials I ...
