One big thing with the freestanding ovens is the repair cost if a part fails underneath the gas burners. If the part that fails is an electrical part then you will need the electrician to replace it BUT he will need to call a plumber to disconnect the gas and remove the top burners so he can replace...

Sorry, i know this is a few months old. Installing a phone point shouldn't be too bad. The sparky should take a cable from the another phone point elsewhere in the house to the new one. Powerpoints are always easier to install in external walls as ylwe van go down the brick cavity rather than using ...

Anyone with brick and weatherboard facade?

My wife and I are building a house with the facade to be brick and weatherboard. We had our minds set on Boral Elan Rouge but had forgot about the weatherboard and can't decide on a color for it that would look good with a red brick. We're sure we will go with white mortar also. Just wanted to know ...

I can imagine how much fun that would be. I've laid a bit of the under tile like yours before but never saw what happened after it was laid. I'm just trying to convince my wife that it will be a good idea but I don't think im getting anywhere. Where did you get the heating cable from?

That's an amazing turn around, nice job! What did you do after laying the floor heating? Did you pour self leveller over the top before laying tiles or tile directly on top?

In your working time, what sort of lighting ideas have you come across? Have any customers asked you to install something other than the standard pendant or downlight?

I'm an electrician and will be wiring my own new house soon. Just wanted to know if there are any other sparkys who have wired their own new house and what creative things they have done with lighting. Strip lighting in the bathroom or kitchen? Down lights? Wall lights? Outdoor deck lights? Sensors?...

Thanks for the info. We're not locked into tiles but that what we want in there. It doesnt matter so much that they might feel cold since there's going to be under tile heating there. The cool tiles will feel nice in summer.

As en electrician, I've never seen it ran down the outside of the wall. I've only seen it come out of the brickwork with the water pipes. Don't know if down the outside of the wall is illegal but it's certainly not good practice.

Hi, vanderlay. I've only just found out about this forum while looking to build a house. Great forum by the way. I noticed the section you have about downlights is well out of date now. Is there any chance of updating this to reflect the current led downlights that are on the market?

My wife and I are in the early pre contract stages of getting a house built. This will have to go over the heating cables before tiles will be laid and it's...
