I have used the acrilic colour renders on clients properties for years and they still look great 15+ years on. Check references of other properties that the contractor has performed similar work and look at how they have finished up. Could be good peace of mind. Good luck with it. Regards James Maso...

Hi there I have a susbended floor on entry level of my house (timber with slate over the top). I want to insulate the subfloor (sound and thermal) of this level. Is it cheaper and easier to do from above (ie pull the slate and timber up - grand plan is to have the slate removed and hardwood floors ...
If you plan on pulling the floor up anyway, do it then. You can drop Batts in from above for thermal and put a regipol r...

Hi there We are doing some renovations on first floor (adding a couple of bedrooms) and wanted to see if it is a common practice for builders NOT to do the OC. The builder insists this should be done by the owner. I wanted to understand what the industry norm is here. For my own protection I would ...

New build or Renovation? There is nothing stopping you really, it's just personal choice. Comes down to how much you trust the builder. If there are milestones you needed to sign off on during that time you could always engage a Building inspector to check out the works to insure it's completed. Reg...

Well lucky you up there in Sydney James. Down here in good old Vic you need a permit to take a siht Anything structural, and I mean anything even like installing a window 300mm wider will require a permit, therefore a drawing, and probably engineer comp's because your having to put in a longer lintel...

Hey guys I know it's an old thread but I can see a few new comments wanting to know more about the process and costs. Start with a structural engineer to determine beams sizes and installation methods. From there get 3- 5 quotes and generally you should get an average of what it's worth. If it's int...

Hardwood decks look good, but take a lot of maintenance. To keep them maintained and looking good they should b...

Did you say the trench for the water pipe was only dug two months ago? If so the trench could still be wet from the backfilled clay, especially if it was not compacted in layers when reinstated. Regards James Mason http://www.renovationjunkies.com.au

Hi mate, the 6mm sheet can be used, although I would advise against it as a more durable 16mm compressed sheet would normally replace the timber floor below. With the 6mm if it's not installed properly there is to much risk of movement with the floor boards below that can cause problems with your ti...
