We have been told by our council that we need to have 7 metres from the road up our driveway finished with BITUMEN. 2 years has passed since our initial paperwork and now they are telling us to get it done, even though we haven't finished building the house yet. They quoted us $2,300 and we are wond...

Another minor photo update. Vanity unit in main bath room - again nearly finished. I am yet to install a mirror but why I would ever want to look at myself - I don't know.... I also don't want to have a mirror above the basin! I have a plan to have the basin under the window, and a slim wall cupboa...

Hey Keffuful, we chose the Bradford gold for external wall. Our walls provide 14cm cavity so we went with two 70mm batts to give 140mm. Ended up with R4.4 Ceilings we are R4.0 And interval walls we are R3.3 soundscreen. Thanks Kasra, was it also Bradford Gold used in the ceiling? I tried to do a pr...

Good to see you have gone straight from building in the height of summer to the start of winter :P Keep up the good work, that will be a great verandah, lovely and wide :D Is it a trick of the light or is that white box halfway up the side of your house at a distinct angle?

Love your place! I have a few questions and apologise if I missed it, I read most of your previous pages but not quite all... *What kind of insulation did you choose, and why? *Did you DIY the waterproofing or get an accredited professional to do it? I will have more questions but not too many all a...

Would love to know what kind of insulation you chose, and why? Also, what your internal wall diameter is - our walls are going to be something like 9cm so not much room to play with...

Good luck with your plans, the long thin house design sounds like it will suit your long, thin block. I also did most of my pricing from the bunnings website, but am hoping to get it second hand when the time comes. I would say that 6 months from start of construction to moving-in is unrealistically...

I would love to know what you used for the wall linings, and how you attached it to the steel frame? That's a big shed, I am wondering if it is bigger than my house is going to be!

You sound like you are very lucky to have gotten a piece of land that big where you are - congratulations! Fantastic progress on the shed, I was wondering what kind of insulation you used, and whether you would recommend it since it made you itchy? Also did the firies charge you a fee for the burn-o...

Finally an update - we are slowly building our house, just up to the stage where we are putting the floor joists on. We didn't end up doing any prep work to the site before getting the footings holes dug, and it wasn't a problem. We have various native plants growing around the house site and they a...

I would suggest putting in a floor drain at the end of the bath which is near the shower, as the picture shows the bath drain being at the far end from the shower, and perhaps would not be especially effective at draining the water anyway. I am hoping this set-up won't make it too difficult to clean...

Love watching your progress, how long has it been since you started? Also I was wondering if you had previous experience with tiling etc. as I am thinking it looks a bit hard! But your efforts are looking fantastic. It is also a bit hard to get tradies where I am too, an hour's drive to the closest ...

Yes my council was the same, with our greywater going from our caravan into a greasetrap and then into a gravel-filled trench.

I have perused the Fair Trading website at length and cannot find anything that says that in NSW waterproofing has to be done by a certified person. I will have to check with my council and see what they say. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the replies - oneJohn - may I ask how long ago you did your building? I think the regulations may have changed in 2012. Liliana - Thanks for the tip, I will PM StewieD and hopefully he will be able to help. I think you might be lucky to be building in Vic!
