I've been MIA for about 3 months!
So much going on and so much to post about! Ready Set... GO!!

So December 1st rolls around and we were convinced that there was zero chance that we would get a slab by Christmas. Because we only live 5 streets dow from our new house, we drive by every time we leave home 'just to check' and see if ay progress is being made!

We were on our way to work and saw.......

So of course dropped by the next morning to see what had been done! Due to the ugly weather that was forecast our site cut looked like a swimming pool! But it was progress!

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

And by the 22nd of December we had a slab! We were so excited!
Our site supervisor Mario is like a magician! we love these guys to bits!
So our slab sat there for just over a month... strengthening and curing!::cheerleader::

We were finally able to see how the house will actually sit on our block... You can have all of these grand plans for landscaping, to have them changed in an instant when you notice your slab sticks out of the ground almost a metre on the back side!

So back to the drawing board we went, after a few heated conversations we have a pretty good idea of what we will do!

On the 23rd January we had framing wood delivered and our layout drawn onto the slab, and the 24th frame start. By the 27th we had all of the walls up! Our slab was suppose to be polished before walls went up. but due to a few unfortunate events with the polishing man it had to be put off until after the frame was completed.

On the 29th January we had the first glimpse of what our bricks would look like! I was VERY nervous about this, our last 2 builds we have gone with darker brown bricks (Austral Homestead Tan and Austral Glenfern) but wanted a different look with this place. I LOVE the sandstone block look, so my partner chose Austral's Access Ash. I'm so glad i let hm take the lead on that one! I'm wrapped with them!

One the 8th February we had an (almost) full bricked garage. (The Wonky walls and brickwork in this photo are from my panoramic photo not a half assed build!!)

And then the 14th February we had something that resembled a house!
We received our Frame stage Invoice! We also got to see what our Merbau timber porch posts will look like!

By the 19th February we had Facia (in Surfmist) and Gutters (in Monument), plus the colourbond roof was delivered and sitting in our backyard. Oh and I forgot to mention... Somewhere along the way we have acquired someones old washing machine..... RUDE! ::sleep::

Our Windows and Sliding door and more Bricks were delivered on the 20th and by the 23rd Feb it looked like this ::party::

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

Sliding door is yet to go in, but all the windows have been installed, our front door surround is in, we are completely wrapped in Blue paper and most of the roof is complete!

We met with SS Mario on Thursday to answer a few questions and had a few of our own answered! Main one being.... WHEN!!? When will we be moving in ***ROUGHLY!*** after a few quick calculations we got **DRUMROLL**......JUNE!!!! I was initially thinking around the Late August/Early September mark... So I almost wet myself when he said June! (plus major panic when I realised we now have to get ready to sell our place a whole lot sooner than I thought!!!).

We should have Electrical going in on Monday and Brickies start Wednesday. Mario thinks that Lockup Invoice should be about 2 weeks away and Fixing invoice about 4 weeks after that!!!!
I have never been so excited to hand over such a large amount of money before!! ::cheerleader:: ::hyst:: ::party::

I'll try and keep to regular updates rather than one MASSIVE post!!

So apparently ‘lock up’ doesn’t mean ‘locked up’ who knew?!!

Going to have a lot of rain over the next few days so will be good to see how the roof holds up :)

They are expecting the fixing stage to be completed by Xmas and also possibly painting will be started which is exciting.

I’m 80% packed and ready to move already haha.

Hi @Melt23!
Just read through your thread! Congrats! Looks great! This part of the build is the fastest in my experience... As soon as you get locked out out it’s harder to get in to snoop around at their progress!
We are just up the freeway in Gisborne! Beautiful corner of the world! Look forward to seeing your progress!

So, Mick and I met with the guy's at Quantum Homes this morning for our colour selection! #happpydance
We had council approved plans back on Thursday and may still get a slab down before they shut up shop for Christmas.... Maybe!
I'll have to just try and stop thinking about it! .... We all know that impossible!

We were so happy with how the selections went. Just over an hour and everything was selected!!

We won't get to choose tiles or carpet until frame stage, but everything else got done today.

Our Site Supervisor Mario said it might be a push getting a slab down by Christmas due to the site still needing to be cut, and because we are polishing the concrete.... Apparently 3 days after the concrete is poured is when the initial grind happens.... Crossing everything possible that they are able to get it done!

Ok!!!

So we signed building contracts last Tuesday!!! YAY!
Apparently it will be about 8 weeks for planning (council etc.) and then slab and hopefully frame before Christmas!
Paul said that hopefully be in this time next year!

I have spent all day on the computer stressing about whether our selections are going to look any good, so decided to play around with my computer and create it myself!

I'm very pleased with the result!
We changed our mind on one thing... the colour of the gables... Originally we were thinking some sort of light grey back with darker grey slats, but decided on surfmist (colourbond colour) and we will match the facia and downpipes with it.

Frot door will be gloss black, couldn't find a photo of a door I like that turned out any good! So made do with this one.

I'll be interested to see how close it is to the real thing once its done!

@xjohnno
Gisborne Fields is great! Our first 2 builds have been in this estate, and our third and about to start is just up the hill in 'Olive Grove'. Its a great 'country' feel.... Everyone says hello when I take the dog for a walk and all of our neighbours have been great!
We are a 2 min drive (30min Walk) from Gisborne township and 2 mins from the freeway - Highly recommend the area!

There are quite a few places going up with smaller custom builders - We are dealing with Quantum homes. Their homes are beautiful and as you can see have designed our place from scratch! No extra cost for this (however I warn you - the process of designing home is the biggest pain, and an incredibly long one!!) There is also Keough Homes and Wright homes that have both had a few houses go up recently.

Hi Nat, WOW! Ive been follwing you since the Carlisle days. We're still in our first Carlisle home and looking to get into our next home little bit further from Melbourne. Do you mind me asking where abouts your builds are? We're looking at Gisborne.

Also on topic your last post they look alright to me.

@xjohnno wow!! I remember!! Long time!!
we are in Gisborne, beautiful little part of the world! Close enough to the city but far enough away that you have peace and quiet!! Plus great resale prices!
This is number 3 for us in Gisborne, all within 5 streets of each other!!

Are you looking at any builders or estates in particular??

Thanks! We are hopefully on our last revision of the plan and about 4 weeks away from signing contracts 🤞🏼

Wow. That all looks great. :DD Some awesome ideas!!! Love the kitchen with the grey and white subway tiles.

Same! That one and the one below it are my favourites!
We are waiting on a quote for 2 Pac cabinetry all through the house.... I'm bracing myself for something way over what we can afford .... hopefully we don't have to compromise on the look that we want...

Just sent off what will hopefully be our last lot of changes to our working drawings..... We are up to Revision N... and figured out that this process started back in NOVEMBER 2016!!!!!

I'm at a stage now where I want the planning to be over and have something to show for it!!
We keep telling ourselves that it will all be worth it! Just be patient!!!

It took me a while, but I finally got some internal Moodboarding done.
Here goes!

Concrete Flooring through the Entry, Main hallways & Main living. - We want the concrete look, no Grind.
   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

Large 'Barn' Doors for the entry to the Main Living Room - 3x Ikea 'Hektar' Pendant lights for above my Island

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

We want Grey cabinetry and overheads (something like the below) with White bench & White subways

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅
   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

This was my inspiration for the 'Coffee Bar' idea next to our Island bench... It will be almost identical (WIP door on the right, wall on the left) the bottom cabinet has drawers, which will be where all cutlery & Crockery will be kept.

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

Our Laundry layout is similar to the below - Dryer over washer, with bench and sink next to it and overhead cabinetry.

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

Including Laundry Hampers!!! (must admit I'm a bit excited about this bit!!!)

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

And something like the below for tiles - I like the White (Kitchen & WIP, and Grey or Pewter for the Laundry - Not sure about Bath/Ensuite or Powder yet!) and the last one is something along the lines or wet area floor tile..... concrete look.

   ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅     ⋅  Add a comment  ⋅  Pin to Ideaboard  ⋅

Once I get Revision N back with our changes I'll put up the Working drawings of the individual rooms

Any ideas or criticisms so far???

God I know that feeling all too well!!!
I promise every second will be worth the wait!! The 'paper pushing' at the end is the most frustrating wait I have ever experienced!!
The second you get the pack with your keys every speck of this frustration and disappointment fades!!! Promise!!!

Timber Posts for the Front Porch - Stained (not sure what colour yet)

We are thinking that we will Deck the Front Porch & The Alfresco. We know it can be a lot of work when its exposed to the elements but I wanted it for the front porch. I think it feels a bit nicer than a concrete porch (Which we have had in our last 2 builds) and will bring a bit more of the timber element into the facade.

Following :)

Nice floor plan. Big home!! Have you done any selections yet?

Not officially!
Our builder does that a bit differently! Once we are at Lockup stage then we go and pick everything!! Makes finance hard, but we will make it work....
We already have a good idea of what we are doing! I'll put photos or my link to the mood board up when I get a chance...

We are getting close to a start date which is exciting!!!

Our first build With Carlisle homes was horrible as far as communication goes. I had to contact them about most things. In the end we had to change Coordinators 3 times... Unfortunately all of them weren't very good...
I'm not sure if your builder is a big volume builder, but perhaps you could speak to their manager, if it doesn't improve then request a new one???
Good luck! Hope it gets better!!

We have a fence on the left hand side of our block, as our neighbours moved in quite a while ago.

Engineering reports are done also.
