When I asked about the parts that were missed, I was told it was rotten wood. Apart from the garage it sounds like the rest of the painting was exterior (weatherboard?) So was the painter intending to paint over rotten wood??? Hi Liliana, no the house house weather board, it is brick but - I don't ...

Hi OneTreeFalling, In my (short) experience tradespeople charge by the job not by the time involved. I've also found that you need to make all your expectations explicit ie put in writing what you expect for your money. Even when you do that, it can be hard to get your expectations fulfilled but at...

New plasterboard should have a sealer/undercoat then two top coats otherwise the paint looks "thin" and washed out. Stewie Hi Stewie, I have no idea whether there is a sealer or undercoat. :(

Did you only want one coat of paint? I did not specify. I siad the house needed to be painted, and it had to look good in preparation for a sale. For $3000 over 2 weeks, I assumed it included an undercoat and a regular coat which I thought is standard(?). He ended up finishing it in 3.5 days: - Mon...

Thanks for the feedback, we weren't sure what to expect. We paid $1200 for the plastering which was completed in a day and a half, and $3000 for a further 2 weeks (his estimation when providing the quote) of other painting work around the outside of the house. However instead of 2 weeks, he complete...

Easy. Just use water, a scrubbing brush and a bit of elbow grease. It will come off as the plaster is water based. Stewie Thanks Stewie, it's a relief to know it'll come off. Is this normal if we were to get more plastering work done?

The plastering job looked like it was done well but there are white marks all over the brick walls that can't come off. I don't know if it's some kind of plastering residue or the white paint that was used to paint the ceiling. How do I post photos here? *edit - attaching photos https://farm6.static...

If I was going to have guinea fowls, I'd have more than three for sure. Have you guys seen a documentary called 'My Life as a Turkey'? It's quite surprisingly good. I highly recommend it.

The property is just under one acre so space shouldn't be a problem, lots of trees and foliage around if they want to go sit on a branch or something.

Ah well, it looks like I'm going to have a lot of trouble then. I have two cats and a dog. So the kookaburras might attack them, and so would the guinea fowls. And the snakes probably. This is not looking good.

Pet Kookaburras. I say 'pet' loosely, because you cant keep them as pets. But we have a family of them that lives out the back, and every now and then we see them carry off a snake. Can't say I've ever seen any around the yard. I saw a couple of kookaburras at the property but I think the building ...

If you have the room and no close neighbours the best snake deterrent is a guinea fowl. 2 of them will keep a house area clear without any problems. They tend to be a bit unsociable to other animal types. I guess the safest bet would be to use both pulse emitters and guinea fowls. I don't suppose y...

Just came back from Velvet Paint in Clifton Hill, bought a 10L Dulux can, $132. Staff was friendly and helpful. At Bunnings and Masters the same 10L cans were about $185-ish, I believe. Glad I checked the internet this morning.

That's a lot of reading! Heh thanks, it looks like a lot of great info, I'll be printing some of them out and reading through them. I should say that my post is a completely hypothetical situation. If I was going to build a fence around the property, at the earliest it would have to be maybe a year ...

I figured that if I had a proper fence, my dog wouldn't run into the thick bush and get lost or end up in another property (amongst other reasons).

Out of interest - if I wanted to build a fence around my property, the normal thing to do is to discuss with my neighbours and split the costs, right? What if I was willing to pay for all the costs? The property in question is roughly an acre, with roughly 4 or 5 adjacent properties that are also ro...

It looks so strong and determined, I wouldn't want to cut it down so it's great you've moved it to its own pot.
