Hi SaveH2O, I am in Camberwell. I had intended on building a roof over all that equipment at a later date, when I build screening for it. But, it's not hard to chuck a bit of plywood over the top of it now. Thanks for the advice once again! My plumber was awesome and helped me out here. I don't need...

Thanks SaveH2O! Oops, maybe I had better put a cover on the pump. It's just sitting out in the rain, because I assumed it was weatherproof. Could be a $300 mistake! Doh! Each toilet has its own green rainwater pipe going to it. The pipes all go back to a single point, outside the house, and near the...

Hi SaveH2O, Thanks for all your help and advice over the journey. Thought I'd let you know how I went! I went for the Einhell 550W pump with pressure tank from Bunnings, and I am super impressed by it (though I have little experience with water pumps). It is really quiet, and doesn't take long to re...

Hi guys, Just wrapping up my owner build. Took me 18months, but very happy with the end result. It has been an epic journey. Thought I would help out my trades who helped me out, by referring them on to the forum. All the guys I got were basically small operators, who did the majority of the work th...

EzyAir were bloody good for me for my split systems. Very professional. I got Fujitsus, and very happy with them. It was a long drawn out process getting them installed, because I was building as an owner builder. About 12months from rough in to final commissioning. Whoa! I used Coldflow for my evap...

Thanks SaveH2O! I think I will buy the Einhell 550W pump with pressure tank from Bunnings. It has gone up in price, to $299, and is discontinued stock, so probably won't be around for too long. I suspect they didn't sell too many of them. Hopefully, this has enough grunt to draw water from an underg...

Hi all, I've read a lot of these posts, and I'm still a bit confused about which pumps are good. I suspect that the confusion is due to every situation being different. I did go to the pump store, and they recommended some really expensive davey pumps, but the salesperson seemed pretty disinterested...

Hmmm. I'm not so sure about this acoustic vs thermal insulation anymore. Knauf have a high performance batt, which is both acoustic AND thermal. The acoustics have been tested to Australian standards, though the sound attenuation has not be listed. But at least it's been tested to standards! It prov...

Thanks CSR Bradford! That is exactly the answer I was after. Appreciated. Also, I re-calculated and realised I made a mistake (didn't factor in the coverage in each bag). Soundscreen is more expensive than R2.5 Ceiling batts, by about 65%, so I understand why builders would prefer to install ceiling...

Fair enough. But did someone quote you on the 5%? I asked Bradford about a sound rating for thermal batts, and they are not rated at all for sound. So, I now infer that they don't have very good sound insulation. But, that's an inference only. Wall acoustic insulation doesn't bother me too much, sin...

I don't think the pink batts provide as good noise insulation as the acoustic batts in the wall (but I'm no expert). Otherwise, why would the insulation companies make acoustic batts? For the same wall thickness (90mm), acoustic batts will provide better noise reduction than thermal batts. Between f...

Sorry, I called up Ace Gutters, and they do have the equivalent Colorbond Colours. It is monolith.

Hi everyone, I had chosen my gutter installer, but found out that he uses Ace Gutters. Looking at the colour charts, it looks like they do not use the colorbond colour scheme. I wanted Monument for the gutter colour, however, Ace Gutters has slate grey. Has anyone had any experience with slate grey?...

Hi 33amc, THANKS! That is exactly what I wanted to know. I won't be using timber fascia, since I don't want to do the maintenance. And with the brackets, then I don't need to straighten the rafter tails. The gutter guy can get to work. I'll double check with him though. Thanks once again for the con...

Hey, here is a good website that explains a few things: http://www.stormclad.co.uk/blog/soffits-fascias-and-guttering-explained/ I was wondering about straightening of the rafter feet for the fascia. Do we use sprockets here in Oz? Cheers David

Hi All, I'm about to get my guttering done, and was wondering what people recommend for fascia. Are colorbond fascia better than timber? I guess the maintenance is much, much, better. The fascia is close to the wet gutters, so will likely rot if made of timber and not maintained. Is there much diffe...

Thanks Stewie. All makes sense. I was going to get a rebate put into the slab for the doors, so I could avoid a step to the inside floor covering, but the sill is only 37mm high, and with timber floorboards, it would make it negligible. Was debating over it for a long time though! Also Stewie, could...

Yep, when in doubt, read the instructions. Here they are: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h228/akapacker/DoorSillDetails_zps4d720dd1.jpg Also, found some standards from California, which might be of interest. http://www.consol.ws/builder-resources/sliding-glass-door-install.php

Hi all, Just wondering about flashing of sliding doors on a concrete slab. I have a brick rebate around the edge of the slab for 76mm brick, but not a rebate specifically for the door like below. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h228/akapacker/doorsill_zps03f75172.jpg So, the door will sit at the s...

Probably best to read the document, because it depends on your location and climate conditions. Recommendations are very different for tropical vs temperate regions.
