We are a young couple (+ puppy) building with Aveling Homes in Perth NOR. We couldn't find much feedback about Aveling on the net, so have started this thread to help out anyone researching. So far we have been extremely happy with their customer service, however, as a 'small' company the turn-aroun...

We were also tossing up between laminate and bamboo, but eventually went with bamboo. We've just finished laying our bamboo flooring and absolutely love it! :D We imported our strand woven bamboo. The suppliers in Perth were expensive (quotes I got were $95 above!), therefore we decided to import o...
Thanks - may I ask what the cost was per metre? Did you lay it yourselves? Would love to see some pics!

Thanks everyone for your feedback, it has been very educational. We've realised what attracted us most about the 'timber look' is the natural faults (which are not seen in laminate for bamboo). For this reason we are focusing our research into finding a 'hard wood' timber. So far we love the look of...

Thanks everyone or your advice and suggestions. Ideally we would have a professional, but it doesn't look like our budget will allow for it. Luckily my partner's parents have a lot of experience painting houses and have offered to help us out. Any DIY painting tips/product advice?

Thanks - those links are great! I'm worried the grey/black will make the kitchen look too dark, so am leaning toward a light 'marble look' with warm white gloss cupboards. I found a new Tightform/Formica product called FX 180 - which imitates a marble finish. I'm digging the Carrera Marble Diamond G...

Thanks - it's great to know a rough figure. How much are you saving by doing it yourself? I was told if you spray the paint (rather than roll) it is more likely to crack - have you know anything about that?

Thanks for the feedback. We both live rent-free at the moment, so that is not an issue. The cost of building doesn't include wall paint (only ceiling & cornice), so either way we need pay for the paint. We are tossing up if we should pay for the labour too - plenty family and friends are willing...

We are in the process of building our first home and are trying to budget for all the finishes. Does anyone know how much we can except to pay for a professional and how this would compare with DIY? (4bed, study, 2bath + 3 living areas)

Thanks bashworth, we already have double powerpoints, but will be adding several extras at a cost of $65 each. Nik, thanks for your response. May I ask which company you built with and where abouts?

We have just signed-up with Aveling Homes (who have been fabulous so far), and have been supplied with our prestart folder. This folder covers the basic options, but as we have chosen the 'display' version of the home, we are a little confused as to which options are included, however we have been r...

We are currently building our first home and after researching flooring options, we are confused by the mixed reviews. Basically we love the 'timber look' but have been warned that real timber can be easily scratched and dented (although we do like wood with real character and natural faults). Then ...
