Re: Brightgreen DR700 Review [or even Philips MasterLED]
Lighting + Lighting Design

The new generation of DR700s have a cleaner finish overall, so I wouldn't hesitate over a Philips 10W lamp. So now the DR700 looks like a halogen, gives the same light and beats them in all other aspects. Why aren't they taking over the world, is it simply the price?

I'm a fan of Brightgreen's D900 range but would like to know a bit about retrofitting and have been looking at both the DR700 and MasterLED 10W bulb. has anyone experienced the MasterLED to see if it's light output is that much below a halogen? I like Brightgreen but Philips have always produced tru...

Not sure if that's right PHL. LEDs that come as an integrated fitting have their own fixture and just need a 90mm ceiling cutout to be installed. As they are installed into new builds usually there is no problem with this. No extra fixture is necessary needs to be made. Retrofit LEDs fit into existi...

Under the new BCA guides your lights can't use any more than 5 watts of power per square metre. For an easy example, in a 10 square metre house you could only have 1 traditional 50watt halogen downlight, however you could install 5 10watt LEDs (LEDs that can be retrofitted after halogens are 10 watt...

LEDs have greatly matured and the technology is finally here. LEDs now match the brightness of halogens but also have high colour rendering (CRI) of 90 and decent colour temperatures, regardless of cool white or warm white. They still use barely any electricity when compared to halogens. Firstly, yo...

I would look at Brightgreen's D900 range, they are compatible I think with all dimmers. we have the curve's installed and they are great, we have never had any of the strobing you are describing. We have them dimmed a little, maybe 80-90% brightness almost 100% of the time and never have troubles. T...

Have you looked at buying your own LED downlights then giving them to the builder? You can get the best LEDs for around $119.

Just buy your downlights independently. You can get top range LED lights for $119, the same as you were quoted. The best ones only use 16 watts but give over 900 lumens (halogens give just over 700). If you look at that you could either use more lights and still be under 5 watts per square metre or ...

There are some 'plug-in' LEDs that are bright enough, you can find some with 720 lumens which is the same as halogens. Full downlight kit LEDs that have their own transformer also get a lot brighter than that, north of 900 lumens for a warm light and over 1000 for cool light. Also keep an eye out fo...

Make sure you only go with a light that has a large heatsink to keep it running cool - this will keep the brightness, when they run hot the light degrades. I would only look LEDs that can monitor and control their running temperature.

Not true. LED downlights will fade only a little bit over time, less the 5-6% of lumen output after close to 10,000 hours of use. After 20 years at 8 hours of use a day they will reduce by only 10-15% of lumen output. The girl at your local store has it wrong. Top range LEDs have an 80% lumen output...

hi all, I am looking for an effective heater to heat an average sized bedroom that doesn't use an absurd amount of electricity. Not fussed whether it is a fan heater or not, just after decent heat. I'm in a rental house with no heater and and a landlord unwilling to install anything. Does anyone kno...

I don't think LEDs really do die, the light will degrade after about 20 years of use at 8 hours a day, but only by about 10%. I understand that the drivers are fully replaceable, and are covered under warranty.
