off memory (i am not a sparky/builder) the regulation is that the LIGHT can't be on without the FAN being on, they could have wired it up so that only the FAN could be on by itself then had the light switched on top of that. However what they have sounds legal and was in place when you rented it so ...

Hi. Ideally it is good to have data service going to every room, compared to having no data access. You can either run one point and have multiple devices running off it via a switch, however dedicated data points for each device will make for a more reliable connection, for an example in theatre r...

no need to get defensive and personal i was asking genuine questions and stating an opinion. Of my lowly 10 kitchen we still own 6 of them so i am across what can and does go wrong, rental years are like dog years for a house. Just to avoid confusion this again is an actual question rather than an a...

why tile wall to wall under the kitchen? Tiles are not water proof anyway so it isn't making a waterproof surface? Tile would have a life similar to a kitchen, all be it due mostly to fashion, at worst the kitchen may need to be refaced mid life cycle. You also wouldn't do it with floating floor so ...

I have only done about 10 kitchens, although a lot of them are in rentals which cop a pounding. I use adjustable legs, although i screw them into the base rather than just clip them in, screw all the cabinets together and to the wall, I have never had any movement issues or cracked bench tops. I pre...

it seems like a reasonable plan of attack, i wouldn't be too upset about the extra waste of of tiles often you can reuse the 'off cut' for the other side also i like having a more symmetrical run.

yer that is never going to work, you could put a drain on the ledge and maybe a bead to direct water but its always going to be a bandaid. Also depends on how well the water proofing was done, if water is going to dam up you would want to hope it was all up to scratch under there.

I have found my trades prefer to get the house to themselves, they will work with each other if i am doing say a kitchen & bathroom but if its only a bathroom they won't enjoy it because they will be in each others way. I also try and get the carpentry out of the way, but that is generally becau...

you are really going to struggle to even get ball parks on that, you are asking for a fair bit of work. As a general rule we have 1k to 1.5k in our budgets on kitchens with overmount sinks and a waterfall and about 5 l metres.

i find propertyinvesting.com a little too biased still get the sense steve mcknight (the 'company' maybe not the actual person) has a fair hand in it. if you paint it you will probably have to rough its surface a little to get it to stick. If its only 1 wall it might be easy enough to pull it and replace.

the real benifit of a trade account for the diy is convinience, i have one at bunnies while the discount is rubish i can assign each invoice to a different job so i can figure out what goes where, i get time to pay for it and at the end of the month i get one summary. they increase noise, a car passing by a constant speed is much quiter than one slowing, going over the hump then accelerating. They don't always reduce traffic, if your street is still a brilliant rat run people might be willing to put up with a speed hump.

i had one, marginally less storage space but don't forget the bottom of most vanities waste 150-200mm in kicker pannels anyway. It was in a small room and i think it helped make the room feel a touch bigger, also i got to hide the heater vent and floor waste under there. In terms of cleaning i didn'...
