Hi We will be having an L shaped island bench in the kitchen. There is a stormwater sized pipe that comes out of the concrete, inside it has pipes coming out of it for hot and cold water and also there is conduit for power... inside the stormwater pipe is water. I just does not seem right to have p...

Seeking advice on how to rip off a governmental scheme online from other tax payers isn't really the most sensible idea either if you want to avoid getting caught out. HD

Ribbon, I think that we are not likely to agree with how the other interprets the law, and I am not going to insult your intelligence by trying to change your mind. You are just as entitled to your opinion as everyone else here is. But I do like your cartoon that you attached, very amusing and I lik...

Nobody is suggesting that what owner did was right, it is wrong, she did it and she said so and now regrets it. The simple fact is that if this extension cannot be made to comply the council will be obliged to issue demolition order and if the owner does not comply, demolish it and recover the cost...

Hi cmhamilton I agree with you and bet that single councillor's travel perks are more than the cost of having couple of smoke detectors installed. The council has the emergency power to act in a life threatening situation but has not done so. If there was a fire (god forbid, there was one in USA tw...

The age old quote seems somewhat apt in this circumstance - if you don't have anything intelligent to add and don't wish to be thought a fool, then probably better to remain silent, than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt! Cheers! You got off lightly Kezza. Our female postie lady is dead! She was riding a Honda 110 cc Postie M/Bike, and waiting to turn right across 2 lanes on Beaufort Street into a side street. She had indicator on and brake light also. Sadly a lady driver who was busy texting at the time - ran into the rear...

I have done a thread titled "dummies guide to demolishing a house" or similar. It might answer some of your questions but to answer one We waited until we had a definitive start date from our builder. We had a guaranteed site start of november, once we had that, we could then schedule back...

We have stainless steel numbers on a light wall. And my letterbox slot is probably less than a metre from the ground. Does our postie care? No, still delivers our bills just the same. Can our house number be determined easily enough? Absolutely, either by looking at the house number on the front of ...

If it was simple for the current owner/builder to rectify all that is wrong with this build, they would have done it already most likely. Back away slowly, no sudden moves and don't make eye contact, when you are a safe distance away, turn and run as far and as fast as you can away from this disaste...

I grew up in a house that backed onto powerlines. 6 weeks old when I moved in and 22 when I moved out. I've been out for 2 years now and am yet to discover any side effects (FYI Mum and Dad are still there and haven't had any side effects either). Ok they aren't the most attractive things in the wo...

Can you clarify what has been notched out? Is it a truss where several parts have been notched or is it a horizontal piece spanning several truss assemblies? And I would never get a plumber to carry out carpentry work, any more than I would get the chippy to do the plumbing work. Your plumber is res...

No, pine can be stained. But it is problematic. It does not tend to stain well, often going very blotchy as certain areas take the stain more readily than others. It is the nature of softwoods to cause these types of issues and I suspect that is what your builder is referring to. There is a method t...

Anybody know how much height tiles add roughly? If we were measuring the height of a space before floor tiles go down how much is it likely to change after? Minimally, millimeters at most. Concrete pad at rear for water tank. Not sure what that pipe right up the back is for? http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/ae57/MmmmBalf/Forum%20Pics/Slab3.jpg Michael You might find that pipe up the back is a vent pipe for the storm water pipe. We seem to have one similar on our build HD

The long gap is an expansion joint, your house would destroy itself over the course of a year without them, you should have a few all up. There will be a caulking compound put on there in due course to fill it. The small holes are called weep holes, again they are there for a purpose. Mainly for whe...
