We have just finished having our fibreglass pool installed. We used Blue Marlin Pools (based in Mornington but came to our bayside suburb). I would recommend them in terms of honesty and fair pricing - and overall was happy with the installation (once we got going!). My only beef is that there was s...

Hi there Been a while since I've popped in to H1... I have to use my phone so please forgive any typos or abbreviations. We have finally ordered a pool and we are considering our options for the pool surrounds. We don't have a lot of $$ to play with so need to keep it fairly simple. One option is pa...

Hi there I am not sure what direction this faces but personally I would build a pergola type structure. You could paint it to match roof colour to tie it in. As for shade and/or roof cover - you could either grow some vines - or put laser lite - or put some bamboo screening up in summer and remove i...

Hi there Given that it's south facing, you don't have to worry about blocking sunlight into house in winter with anything permanent. We have a north facing pergola and have the ongoing problem of wanting shade in summer, but without blocking the winter sun from coming in our living room during the c...

My first reaction was one large or a couple of slightly smaller pendant lights.... as PP said, will break up the 'line'.

I like the idea of a timber blind - or any blind for that matter. Would give it some warmth and a new dimension. It looks like you don't have much, if any, window ledge, so you could maybe put a nice shelf in just to put a plant or item on. I was also going to suggest, depending on the room availabl...

Sorry I can't help with your actual question as I have no idea which ones are lighter ... however, have you considered having two drops instead of one (ie, two separate blinds side by side)?? Having said that, it just occurred to me, surely if they manufacture them (or took your order to suit your s...

Yep, larger rug and art. For a cheap 'art' option you could buy a large blank canvas or frame and cover it in fabric - any fabric of your choice but thicker upholstery fabrics work well or Ikea fabrics). As someone else suggested, rugs with a pile can be joined together to make a larger rug... The p...

Hi there We are looking into replacing the glass and window frames at the front of our house. The rear windows were done when house was renovated, front of house still original windows - very thin glass and totally energy inefficient! Mostly south facing (one west) and lose a lot of warmth in winter...

My issue is purely from a layout perspective..... but once you remove those living room walls - and alter the bedroom doors and bring the bathroom out - all of those rooms will open directly onto the kitchen or living area. I'm sure you have thought of this and probably decided it is still the bette...

Besides all the technical considerations, I would be concerned that having 5 bedrooms but only 1 living area might not suit too many families. 5 bedrooms usually translates to a large family, so I would think 2 living areas would be a pre-requisite?? 4 bedrooms/2 living areas sounds a good balance t...

Yes, depends how many bedrooms you would like to end up with. I like Tjilpil's idea of making the front living/dining into master bed/ensuite. You could then go as far as to make the existing kitchen into 2nd bathroom and laundry (separate rooms). At least plumbing is present. Use the existing bathr...

Hi there I'm with you - I don't like the sound of him and I wouldn't want him doing my 2nd job. So yes, either just use the angle that you have decided not to get the 2nd job done - you haven't signed a 'building' contract with him, per se - just signed the quote to complete the job as per your spec...

Our family/dining is 4m x 7m - I wouldn't want it any smaller - and wish it was bigger. We do have another living area - so it's so bad, but I think even 4.5m x 8m would make a huge difference. Cheers HHCIB

Curious - how can you install a pool but not have the fence? I would have thought that due to regulations, pool fence would need to be completed before or during pool fill? So is it possible to not have fence up straight away? Or is there a window of time they allow to put the fence up? How does it...

Yep cool.... will do, thanks again SM. Love the look of some of their pools so definitely worth a look. Now to get serious of whether we want to get one in for this summer, or hold off another year or two. There are a few factors to consider - but it's just good to know that we could actually consid...

Hi There I've always wanted a pool - it's a bit of a dream of mine. When we bought our house, I made sure we bought a house with enough room to fit a pool should ever I be able to realise my dream  . So now I'd really love to investigate whether pool is an option - $ wise. We will go and chec...

Well that's heartening, thanks guys :D . And sorry for omitting the location - but we are in SE MElbourne. That would leave you $24K for fencing and paving. Not done ours yet (doing fencing ourselves) but that seems more than adequate. Curious - how can you install a pool but not have the fence? I w...
