Hi If it's the same, there won't be a cord, just a spring. They break often - we don't use this system as it is risky if it fails, on the other hand it is fairly cheap to replace. I would try Alspec or Lincoln Sentry for replacements (number on internet or in the book). Take you old one as a guide. Ed

Hello Peter, Saw your post a while ago but I was waiting for someone with more knowledge of double hungs than me to answer. The item you need to replace is the plastic tube on each side. It contains a spring which has broken. This is the sash balance. Sash balances are made to suit a length and weig...

We have a light coloured slate floor and it is great. Not so cold as you may think. We have a light colour, they do darken as you apply maintenance coats of sealer year by year. Colours? No idea... Ed

From the case quoted earlier... During the court's deliberations, it stated that, although two designs might be very similar, it is no breach of copyright where two people reach the same design by coincidence or where the second party had expended such skill and labour in the creation of the archite...

This is a very famous case. It states that you can end up with exactly the same design and it's OK if that is a coincidence. You need to have evidence that the person deliberately copied the design. From Findlaw Australia... Who owns your designs? Author: Clark McNamara Lawyers The recent decision o...

I already have some timber windows and I grew up with them - and they are not that much maintenance. Steve And what did your dad think about the maintenance? :) :) :)

I grew up with timber windows too - they were either very draughty or painted shut (double hung & casement). That's another thing - what's the carbon emission data for air leakage - for sure timber is a major offender. The oil under the ground will surely run out fast - but that's because we are...

You wouldn't go into a shop and say here's my money now give me a dishwasher, microwave and hot water system. You would get the cheapest (and nastiest) of each. But this is exactly what you are doing. Exactly Casa, could not agree more... almost everyone does take the builders choice on everything ...
