Well after a few stressful days regarding our slab, I went with my Dad to meet with our SS, as there were a few issues that needed attention that we were both quite concerned about. I'm now confident these are being dealt with and I'm happy with the outcome. In all of this time, pretty much our who...

This is a good thread. I am going to buy some low-chill blueberries to grow in pots here in Brisbane. I will use pots so I can easier manage the soil and keep it acidic. Tips on what to use in the soil would be most welcome. Nitrogen is the main Fertilizer that Blueberries need before fruiting, but...

Hi Just wondering how you go about fencing if your neighbor isn't actually building and is just sitting on the block for a while to make a profit basically. Can you still request they go halves in the fencing? Are they required to and how would you go about getting their details. The owner must pay...
The owner must pay 50 per cent of the cost of a 'basic fence' whether they plan to build or not. You can get their cont...

kcruisin77 , the best thing to do to get a handle on time lines is to check out the Blogs of people well along in the building process. That will give you an indication of what to expect. Our Slab went down 5 months after paying the initial $3k deposit, but a lot also depends on your local Council.

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has had a variation for excavation and found that the actual amount of soil removed has tripled. We have just started construction and were told there would be 55 ton of dirt to be excavated, however the exavator who removed the dirt has sent us a bill for 150ton. T...

I found the following information at another Forum, so now I am really confused ::: Is the 300mm to the bottom of the Decking a Recommendation or a Legal Requirement? Thanks to the Experts for any guidance that they can give so that I can sleep a bit sounder at night. Quote: Originally Posted by Spi...

Would it be as simple as making a hole and adding a t-junction? I can't see why not, as long as it is done by a qualified Gas Fitter. Slow combustion Heaters must be located a certain distance away from internal walls, so I don't think that a gas line in the wall would be a problem, but again that ...

OK, thanks for the information. I should have 225mm from ground level to the bottom of my Decking (Stringybark Hardwood), and there will be no pooled water as there are a series of gravel filled trenches under the Deck to carry away any rain water. Is the 300mm a legal requirement or just a recommen...

I'm a bit confused by the "Decks under the building code must be a minimum of 300mm above the ground" comment. My Draughtsman did a Ground Level Deck/Pergola Plan where the Bearers sit just 25mm above the ground! The Bearers are 100mm x 100mm Galvanised steel, and the Joists are 100mm x 50...

Wow! What your Builder did in one week has taken my Builder over 3 months! And mine still hasn't finished the roof or even looked at the plumbing. I would estimate that my Builder is only on site for an average of 2 days per week (some weeks 5 days, other times not seen for a couple of weeks), so a ...

Is there anything to stop a Home Owner installing an Air Conditioner after the House is occupied, or are there BASIX Police patrolling the streets? Isn't BASIX only relevant at the 'design stage' of construction?

Thanks for the info Terry1. Rod1949 I can see why your neighbour is upset, nobody wants a cracked Slab. My Slab is now a week old and only has a few 'hairline cracks' which is of no concern, my main worry is the fact that my Slab is only about 40% the strength of a fully cured Slab. Not much that I ...

Regarding curing of slabs, some go to a fair bit of trouble here and some don't worry all that much. And the results seem to be the same Interesting observation Terry1, is it just the odd Concreter who doesn't bother 'curing' a new Slab, or is this an Industry wide problem? My Slab is on a 'cut and f...

Water curing is carried our by supplying water to the surface of concrete in a way which ensures that it is kept continuously moist. The water used for this purpose should not be more than about 5°C cooler than the concrete surface. Spraying warm concrete with cold water may give rise to ‘thermal sh...
