Redd, I agree with the PPs - your kitchen is gorgeous and I think a dark smokey mirror or glass splash to echo the side cabinetry. We've decided to go the black/dark mirror glass , think its a good fit with the ovens and the other colours Cheers for the suggestions/help/reinforcement :)

I love your polished concrete floor!!! I think a grey metallic splashback would look amazing. The choices we have been bouncing around have been around mid grey, white, black , or some sort of brown toning. So yes a grey metallic is on the list

We posted our custom pavilion style floor plans way back somewhere in this thread (seems like years ago) . The floorplans stayed the same but we did make some changes to the external look (went a bit more contemporary) After all the usual hold ups with council and so forth we finally got going middl...

Have been looking for white subway tiles either glass (preferably) or glossy ceramic. Seem to be very readily available in the US but quite difficult to find here. (They are 150mm x 75mm format) Has anyone used them or know where these are available . We are in Victoria but anywhere in Australia wou...

Polyurethaned timber is not a great benchtop material for the reasons above. I will/would use timber as a feature island bench and oil it rather than 2-pack. It will be an island/prep area with a bit of kitchen table thrown in and will serve as a prep bench / table. Even considering using it as a ch...

We are considering tilt and turn, casement and sashless (Shugg) - all double glazed for the places we want good flow through ventilation to use the sea breezes we get . Local conditions can be windy with driving SW rain at times (southern Vic near the coast). Have been told that tilt and turn would ...

Wondering how people have handled the trade-off between solar gain and glare. We are building with a large qty of north facing glass (floor to ceiling) , with concrete floors to soak up the sun (thermal mass). As any form of tinting will reduce the solar gain which we are trying to maximise we are n...

We are building with a roughly usual amount of "normal" size windows and sliding doors , but also with 1 large section of north facing glass " floor to ceiling" of approx 13m W by 3m H incorporating 2400H fixed glass panels with 600mm panels above (every 3rd one opening) There ar...

If you use gyprock over any RBV wall it will not perform all that well. It will need to be plastered for it to be effective or as you said left exposed. The gyprock will act as a insulator. Im doing a fully exposed solid limestone wall for internal mass in the house I'm about to build. Maybe you co...

the Hebel panels appeal from a cost and speed of installation point of view along with the higher claimed R rating and acoustic properties. Can be installed by the builder/carpenter also - so one less trade to deal with.

Looking to build RBV walls and looking at the difference between using concrete block or hebel panels. From what I can read the main difference is hebel has more R value but less thermal mass , but the difference is hard to quantify. Both of them would probably have a plasterboard skin on the interi...

We're about to do a custom build on a rural block in Vic. Kind of modern country design around passive solar principles. We are using rammed earth as a feature wall along the spine for thermal mass. Good luck with your build ..... You'll probably get the rammed earth a lot cheaper over there
