We have Quenda's at our place. And they are so cute. Although they're supposed to be nocturnal, they are active during the day. We have garden corridors all around the house so they just duck and weave from garden to garden, or vege patch where they dig up food scraps. Just today I was pruning when ...

You said you planted in Jan, so I would not be pruning just yet. I would be looking at the reason why the leaves are browning on the tips. This could be that they are too dry or too wet. Check your soil - dig down a few inches and see how moist it is. Not sure of you location, but in perth it has be...

Oh no! Not an Ash (Fraxinus Griffithii). Lovely tree, but the roots are quite invasive. I have a row of these guys around 7 years old and they have roots near the top of the soil 2-3 inches in diameter. I wouldn't trust them around any type of water pipe/sewer. What about a Magnolia Little Gem? Prob...

Bagheera, it's an Tipuana Tipu (Also known as a Pride of Bolivia). Great shade canopy tree - you see it in lots of carparks. Don't know much about their root systems, although we have quite an established tree on our boundary. Haven't seen any roots in the garden bed there and no movement in pavers ...

Hi Fu, just a quick question re green mulch. How much 'green' should there be in comparison to the woody bits? I have had 10m3 delivered and is very very brown and dry looking. Last year's delivery had a lot more green. Also, does mulchnet set standards? Thanks in advance.

Hi Sheznay We put in a pool 2 years ago and went with Leisure Pools. I can only confirm what jbarry said, they were fantastic and would recommend them to anyone. The whole process was a joy. We too put in the Elegance 9 x 4 and love it. Great service and a good quality product - you get what you pay...

Thanks Redman and Fu ! Got some dolomite and seamungus today. I also saw Olsens Bio Green and noted that it nuetralises soil ph. Would this help? On top of the straw, could I put green mulch as the easterly winds ::angry:: will blow the straw to my neigbours, or worse still Cottesloe Beach (No straw...

We have quite a lot of lawn areas, and half of it is looking pretty ordinary. I know it needs a soil wetter, but, my husband wants to vertimow it - reckons it's too thatchy. Is any amount of thatch okay? What steps could I take to assist the breakdown of thatch? Also, if he were to to this would you...

Last question for today! Is it possible for shredded pine bark to turn soil acidic after a number of years? I have some Grevillea superbs that were mulched heavily with this 6 years ago and are now failing, and after a soil test noted that the soil was ph5. Whilst I would never mulch with this stuff...

November last year we planted a grass tree, which is growing really well, thanks to advice from H1 re molasses, seasol & powerfeed. It has now put up it's flower spike (and don't they grow fast - 2 inches a day I reckon!) and I don't know whether to cut it off or not. It looks fantastic, but, my...

Was at the big green shop yesterday and saw this gorgeous plant 'Leucadendron Harvest'. Google images does not do justice to this plant! Does anyone know if it's bred here in WA ? What would be the best growing conditions ? Trying hard to think where to put one, or more, in the garden !

Hi ICK I have a row of these flowering ash trees, and they are a lovely tree. BUT I would have to say their roots are invasive. I have recently dug out plants near them and tried planting under them and their roots are everywhere, even on top of the soil (30mm+ in diam) and they are only 7 years old.

Hi Mrs D We are in Maida Vale on quite clay soil and have the 'normal' kikuyu. Well I love it, love the green, love that it does not have seed heads like couch and it's tough. Yes it will try to escape, but I control it with glypho - just a dribble (not even the smallest spray) along the edges every...
