I put in double doors opening inwards, but the switches are behind the main opening door, so always inconvenient.

C-Bus doesn't have power monitoring in the dimmers or relays. You can log the state of loads and then multiply the number of "on" hours by a static power value for that circuit, but this is not the actual power consumption. C-bus does have power monitoring. The system for whole of house m...

We are require a very similar rendering walls solution but land drops away to the right. Possibly two tiers of 600mm max tapering off to one 600mm on the left of the steps. I am not sure whether to blueboard over concrete sleepers, or do in besser block? I have seen both crack after a couple years a...

If you used straight stone, such as Granite, or Marble you would not have the problem of engineered stone I assume. The other surface I considered was polished concrete. I can understand doing a slab a couple of inches thick as bench top, but on The Block 2013 Mat applied to a wall like render, then...

You can source caesarstone etc off cuts relatively easily. I seem to recall someone saying do not put engineered stone in the sun, as the glues would go off!! can anyone confirm this?

LED Strip Lighting failing

Less than 24 months ago we moved into our new house. In the kitchen we used white LED strip lighting below the overhead cupboard. A strip 3.3metres long. There are 50 led's per metre. Looks great reflecting down on glass splashback. BUT there are now 9 globes out and counting, giving noticeable gaps...

Nice plan bentwagon. There was a similar large block that sold for a bargain near us, over in the far west of Node 1, that similarly had a large central tree. Some how it disappeared! I'm sure there will be plenty of fill available in your Node to build up the bottom of your block if you want.

Hi KathleenandCraig, hope you had good advice from banks and were not put off. We bought land in Node 1 that we liked (high side, wide front) and designed the house ourselves to suit. This was after spending considerable time with Scott Salisbury and we would still recommend them, as they tried real...

PD, Yes it was Steven Leybourne for the ADC approval. and for us the Mitcham City Council DA only went through once, so was not a headache. Still about 3 months, during which you should watch the council web site to ensure your builder doesn't sit on the paperwork. Friends built in Belair took 15 mo...

PD, When we built in BPark we also had to get approval from ADC (Robert Coulls) to ensure we were meeting the encumbrances. We then applied and received council DA with our own plans before going to tender. Not so much for us but the Mitcham Council can be a huge hurdle for some, even using big buil...

Is anyone a able to confirm a rumour that you should not use engineered stone in an area that can be exposed to sun? Due to the chemicals used to bond the quartz. This restricts me to using granite, marble or stainless steel (very hot) for a easily maintained bench surface on outer edge of alfresco....

PD, hi neighbour. I have a wall mount cabinet in linen closet (left in photo). It is 10in width (not 19in) and contains 3 x 12port cat6 panels. There is an 8port gigbit switch going into the bottom with external plug pack. note the use of finger duct right round, great for neatening up wiring. I hav...

Make sure they zero'd your meter when installed. With all the solar PV installs they have an excess of used import-only meters that they are re-installing. Had case of neighbour's new build and power company installed a non zero'd second hand (looked new) meter.

Less than 3 months ago I had a good neighbour colourbond fence installed, going halfs with neighbour. I noticed today two panels (out of 30ish) rusting! all others are ok. My first point of call will be the installer. But I think I know the cause. In the morning I have noticed condensation on those ...
