Your welcome. I think our hedge looks fantastic especially at this time of year when it's full of beautiful red flowers against glossy dark green leaves. We choose a deep red japonica as the hedge is against a colorbond fence facing north so plenty of sun. Good luck with finding enough mature plants.

We planted a hedge of red camellias in Sydney over 15 years ago and wanted to match the type of flower when we rebuilt. There were 2 nurseries that were based in Glenorie that specialised in camellias - Camellia grove nursery and camelliasrus. I can't remember which one we ended up buying from but t...

I've had a few quotes for plantation shutters from blind companies in Sydney but they all seem to be made in China from basswood. Does anyone know of custom shutter manufacturers that are made here?

We had the same dilemma. Our window manufacturer installed the doggy door into the aluminium frame of our laundry door. So we have a toughened glass laundry door (also BAL40 requirement) with a glass side panel made the width of the doggy door. Luckily we only have a small dog so the width was just ...

Well I'm just a bit disappointed after waiting and waiting... Checked out the entryway furniture at the Aust PB site. What was described in the US site as a 'leather bench' at USD799 has transformed into a 'leather rectangular ottoman' for the grand sum of AUD1319. For that price I'd rather get a be...

Yes, I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm looking for a bench with shoe storage, something like http://www.potterybarn.com/products/caden-upholstered-leather-nailhead-bench/?pkey=cstorage-benches. Landed cost would be ridiculous though. Did hear that Pottery Barn is opening soon in Sydney... I w...

The problem is what you see on a screen is in RGB whereas paint is made up of CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). Worldwide ink manufacturers also have their own colour terminology. Without knowing the ink breakup - the screen version is impossible to match. The best idea is to take a printout (and...

Thanks for all the replies. Ended up going for the Apricus with 44 tubes and a 400L tank. Hopefully we won't need the electric booster very often.

I've spent the afternoon researching the internet about solar hot water systems and haven't come to any conclusions. Totally confused. ::wornout:: Aquamax, Rinnai, Rheem, Dux... all just names at the moment but I have to choose one and fast. Can anyone advise or tell of their experiences with any of...

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a modern gas log fireplace for an open plan area? I'm off to look at jetmaster (do I really have to spend 8k?)

The last time this topic was mentioned was in 2008 so I'm wondering if there are some new opinions out there. We want a toilet and bidet suite in our ensuite bathroom. I know Australians aren't too keen on these but that might change with an ageing and changing population. There doesn't seem to be m...

Has anyone heard anything about solar outdoor showers? I was googling outdoor showers for a pool area and came across a few different versions. They sound like a great idea but seem a bit too cheap, 200-300 compared with 1-4K for a stainless steel post one.

Hi Kerrin You do have a beautiful house. I think you've specified just about everything so sorry about another question - what tiles (especially waterline) and finish did you use on your pool? We are in the process of digging our pool. We'll be having a pebblecrete interior and I just love the finis...

We had a demolition sale recently that was a total waste of time. Advertising in the local paper cost $100 (also advertised on gumtree and put signs out locally) and we got about $120 back. A lot of time wasters offering $10 for this and that, then standing around waiting for them to come back and d...
