Thought I'd update this post. Last weekend we began planting our mini-orchard. We have 3 Ballerina apples - Waltz, Maypole and Flamenco, a Wurtz avocado, a Sunset peach, a Sunset nectarine, Thomuscat grape, a potted dwarf Lemonade, and a potted dwarf Eureka Lemon. We are planning to also include a d...

DH has done a great job laying a paved path around the back and sides of the house so now it's over to me to get the back garden going. We have clay bisque soil so I understand I need to mix in some gypsum (1kg per m2) to break up the clay. We have some rubble and sand left over from paving, not sur...

I just thought I'd update you on our honeycomb blinds. We have them throughout the house with blockout in the bedrooms and the rumpus (media) room and light filtering elsewhere. They look great, make a big difference to heat/cold and are so easy to use. We also have them over our sliding doors.Only ...

I'm leaning towards the idea of the bark chips amongst the plants idea. Probably along the fence line garden bed. Totally agree you have to train the dog where you want it to go.

We are in a new house in Adelaide and are yet to establish our garden. We hope to have a puppy which will mostly be indoors but need to have suitable outdoor areas in our small backyard for him to roam and toilet. We are not fans of grass and don't own a lawn mower. Is there a ground cover that is d...

I went today to my local nursery to have a chat with the horticulturist about my garden plan. He said a lot and showed me a lot of plants in a whirlwind tour but I don't know how much I can remember. His main suggestions were: pave around the house first so we know what level we need to build the ga...

Thanks, Fu. I am encouraged that we have enough space to have some fruit trees. I understand that we may need more than one apple for pollination, is that right? What about those multigrafted trees? A friend of mine has 3 swarf multigraft trees and gets 9 different varieties of fruit from them in a ...

There is one for paint - Dulux my colour http://www.mycolour.com.au/# go to exteriors I don't think all the colour names are always up-to-date but it sure helps give you an idea. We are building and nearly to lock up. I understand that there is supposed to be a path around the house for ease of access and to protect the foundations from excessive water.
