Just a quick one. Is it recommended that you get a plumber in to connect the water, or can an average Joe with a limited handyman ability work it out ?

Thanks all for the reponses. Have made me feel a little better. The step up from the floor to the bathroom is currently 60mm without the tile on top so will go up another 5mm or so. After carpet we are still going to have a step up that is 30mm +. It looks ridiculous at the moment. I really hope onc...

Hi, Two of our bathrooms are upstairs. Not sure how they could get around that one. Apparently they can put little ramps under your carpet so you dont notice as much, but still...... Im going to recommend to our builder that he doesnt offer them to clients in a similar situation to ourselves or at l...

Hi all, Just thought I should share a not so great experience that has just come to light during our building process. Our builder showed us the shower / bathroom grates that you actually insert a section of floor tile into so you dont even see them. They look great. At just $50 each or so it was a ...

yeah, I guess building with a private builder has been good in terms of flexibility. We have changed out minds on a few things at the last moment. It can work both ways though. Like when you decide that you prefer the look of the frameless shower screens and he says sure thing that will be 3 screens...

Hi, Don't really want to sound like a trouble maker but we chose that same garage door and didn't pay any more for it. We originally chose our door to be Jasper colour and then when we saw how good the caoba looked asked if we could change. Our builder is not really the type who wouldn't pass on an ...

Hi, Does anyone know why getting coping tiles around a pool is so expensive? We have been calling quotes to have our old concrete pool renovated and that component of the cost is blowing me away. Our pool is approx 9 x 4.5m and they are quoting up to 4k to lay the copers (we have to supply). Is this...

Just like to say thanks for starting this thread. We are close to completion on our new house at Shelly Beach NSW. Had picked a while ago this fridge as the one we were going to go for. Really like the look and the fact that the ice maker doesn't take up half the freezer. Considering RRP is $3499 an...

Spoke again to my builder today. he is saying that it is an error with the plans that showed the deck at the same height as the inside floor. His explanation is that he can only take the level of the deck to the level of the flashing underneath the stacker doors. If he took it up any higher any wate...

Thanks for that. The step down is definitely less than 190mm. The thing is that the plans show the deck height as the same as the inside floor. Im trying to figure out if it is a plan error or a construction error. The brickies opinion that it has to be that way to stop water coming inside if the de...

hi All, Just have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. Our new house that is being built has a rear covered 1st floor deck with an alfresco area underneath. Ive noticed that the level of the deck is about 20 cm lower than the inside floor. I asked the builder if this level is to come up w...

hi again. Yep you are all dead right. I had my meeting with my builder and discovered that they get great rates on the items they buy lots of so if you want somthing different you will be credited back a relatively small amount and then he potentially wont have the same level of pricing on the upgra...

Hi, thanks for that . We have a meeting with our builder to discuss the pricing on the upgrades this afternoon. Should be interesting. I dont at all begrudge the builder applying his margin on top of his price. It is a business and they are obviously in it to make money. However when this ends up at...

We are about 14 weeks in and are a couple of weeks off lockup. A place just down the street started a couple of weeks after us and i was hoping to use it as a gauge as to how we were progressing. Well the comparison didn't last long. They blew straight past us and were at lockup after about 8 weeks....

Hi All, currently 1/2 way through building our new house at Shelly Beach, NSW. Have picked up some great ideas browsing this site and now have a question that I would really appreciate an opinion on if anyone is keen to offer. Does anyone know ballpark what a builder pays for items such as tapware a...
