Hi Back Pocket, Sorry to hear that. I've always had a quick response from Rory. If you are still after a concreter, prehaps you can PM me your details and I can pass it on to Rory tomorrow when he works at my site?

I've engaged Rory to do my backyard based on the recommendation from this thread. I will be getting steps done, bench seat and a path around the house. A trickier site as my block is on a slope. Progress pics at my blog: http://rlay1.blogspot.com.au/

Depending on the model of air con, you may be able to get a wireless controller option?

Yep, that is exactly what I have done. Fully enclosed with stacker doors and fly screens. Have installed a BBQ, sink and cooktop so these days it is being used more as a 'dirty kitchen' rather than as an alfresco.

I have panels at my place and regarding the unsightly radiators, you can get covers for them. http://rlay1.blogspot.com.au/2010/05/hydronic-heating.html

I don’t think you’ll be able to find a project builder that would be interested in ICF construction. Custom builders would normally charge you a lot more than $10k per square. I’ve had some quotes of over $30k per square! The only way you’ll get ICF construction to be around $10k per square is to be...

Battens, a picture tells a thousand words: http://rlay1.blogspot.com.au/2008/09/insulation.html Those metal things are the battens. My place has 400mm floor joists, acoustic installation and battens and it does help minimise the noise from the top floor.

I didn't bother going to the expense of sealing my concrete, only the underlay. It is been over 2 years now and no problems. However, if you did want to seal it, I don't see how it will hurt (other than your wallet, that is :-P)

$5k is about right… could be a bit more or a bit less depending on the installation costs and the type of controllers you get (wired or wireless)

Hmm… my suggestion would be to get another receiver. It will give you more flexibility and an iPod connection. If you are happy with Onkyo, I say stick with it. You can still use your old receiver plugged into 2 sets of speakers and the new one can be plugged into the other 2 set of speakers. If you...

I might as well chime in as well… I built with Zego and have absolutely no regrets. I’ve got Zego external walls and retaining walls. All walls in basement are Zego (load bearing) and home theatre is Zego (sound proofing). All other walls are standard timber frames. As for whether it will be worthwh...

Ha, funny that about the coins and concrete. When we had our driveway done, the concreter asked my sister whether we had any superstitions and would like to place a coin in the concrete, splatter pig’s blood, etc… Her response: “Nah, just make sure you reinforce it properly and do a good job!” :D
