Hello MrsJM, We finished building in Como back in 2009 and the house is doing well. I hope you find others here to share your experience - we found it very useful to compare notes, and also quite entertaining at times. Good luck with your project. (Hello Southies!)

Hi Lex A few months ago Penrith Air replaced under warranty the internal aircon remote controller. They also installed a magnetic interference suppressor on its connecting cable, claiming success with that technique on other installations. It's been ok ever since.

Hi Bec, I don't think you'll find any large builders that also do demolitions. We used a company called Gabrael - I wouldn't recommend them, look at the beginning of this thread to see why.

Hi Bec, All in all, we are happy with our new home. I don't have any advice that'll help you make (or not make) the decision to take the big step, other than to go in with eyes open - expect things to go wrong and you won't be too disappointed. Our DA process seemed to be less painful than most we'v...

We moved into our new rebuild in July 2009, it includes a 4200 litre Bluescope rainwater tank with submerged pump. The pump and wall-mounted controller are manufactured by Davey. Recently we noticed that the pump was starting up at random intervals when no water was required (3 cisterns + washing ma...

Congrats on the handover DB. I always thought that Telstra (or its contractors) worried about all street digging. In my case the pit is only about 2 metres from the private pole, and it was never mentioned that I had to contact any contractors. This was when I was trying to get Telstra to do the ins...

Hi DB, The Private Pole installed for electricity had two conduits installed between the base of the pole and the side of the house. The electrical contractor used one conduit for the power cable, and the other was left underground with a pull string in it. Our Optus cable runs overhead from the str...

Hi BNA, Sorry I can't recommend a pool company, but we had a bad experience with a pool company a few years ago. Send me a PM if you want the details - anything I post in public would probably violate the forum rules. :sh: :(

Oh, hang on, you didn't DIY this job, did you? No, too much like hard work :) It was done by a local (Sutherland Shire) company. The quality of the work looks OK, but the workers (I won't call them tradesmen) stuffed our recycle bin with non-recyclable plastic packaging and left a lot of metal in o...

Is the pergola actually supported in any way by the house (I can only see the 4 posts at the front)? Yes it is - in a clever way. There are about four solid aluminium brackets bolted to the rafters under the tiles - they protrude beneath the gutter through cuts in the fascia panel, gaps are filled ...

As promised, here are the "before" and "after" photos of the pergola we had built next to the alfresco - it took 2 days to build, finished last week. The only complaint we've had so far is from the occupants of the bedroom overlooking the structure - "we can't see into the y...

Hey, themax! Thanks. Now tell me why there's a steady stream of visitors to Southies who drive by Helldad's without even waving? themax isn't the first to mention this. Was it something I wrote? What's she got that I haven't? Better looking I suppose, and she has actual water views. And her side fen...

Hi DB, so you're building in The Shire too? What area? You'll find plenty of vents about the Bic C in these pages, and our build wasn't a hiccup-free zone, but compared to some we got off pretty lightly.

Good luck with your project mecha. You can pick up a lot of support and help on this forum. I've done quite a few tracks lately, just search for Helldad on soundcloud.com. It's all old songs, but then so am I. :)

Hi mecha-wombat, I thought that name looked familiar. TOG|Helldad is indeed another of my names, although not very active on the forums there at present. I'm still a TOG sponsor and all my websites are hosted on the TOG servers. Sorry dear readers to carry on this obscure conversation, TOG stands fo...

Hi everyone, the first anniversary of us moving into our new house has passed by almost unnoticed, and I have good news, especially for Clarendon customers. The good news is this: Nothing has happened! Not that we were waiting for something to happen, no. It's just that no appliances have become fau...

Hi everyone. Long time no post for me! I just had to share our new front door - promised Lex I'd post a photo of it. :) The old door will go on the workshop out the back, this one came from Doors Plus - it was on special (but still expensive). The leaded glass is sandwiched between two sheets of tou...

this is a picture of the house we just purchased: http://www.overclockers.com.au/pix/vzb0b Yep - that's 2-phase. The computers and the welder don't necessarily dictate 3-phase unless it's a really hefty welder with a 3-phase connection. The RC aircon is what made us get 3-phase, motors over about 5...

would this make it easier to get 3 phase on the property if it already has it? Three wires going into the late 40's house - that sounds to me like 2-phase. Full 3-phase has 4 wires going into the house. I don't think it will make much difference what's there now if you're doing a knock-down. Techni...
