Its always a good idea to pick mats up through out the house occasionally and vacuum under them to pull the pile back up. Firstly I had one of those clear plastic sheets with spikes underneath. The problem is that chair slides too easily and if you remove it there are spike marks at regular intervals and the carpet is much cleaner under the plastic. Also, the plastic needs to be cut so it fits under my desk, which is a hard job to do. I had this for about 5 years but eventually the plastic cracked. Secondly I tried a piece of carpet the same colour as the carpet beneath. It was stitched up on the sides. This was annoying. It would move around a lot and crumple up. It had to put it in place each time I used the office chair. Thirdly, at my new house (which we've been in for one year now), I've used the rubber backed commercial tile from Bunnings like others have used. Up until today I've had the rubber facing up since I was concerned that the rubber may mark the carpet. Again the carpet tile had to be cut to fit in between the drawers, but this was a lot easier than for the hard clear plastic one I used before. It moved around (but didn't buckle). Had to be ajusted every fifth or so days. Today I flipped it over so the rubber is facing down. It appears to have a bit more grip, but once again it moves around. If someone could invent the perfect carpet protector for office chairs, I would be a happy man! The carpet under the carpet tile is cleaner, but not noticeable. This is because rather than having a sharp edge that doesn't move, the carpet tiles constant movement feathers out the edges. So, there's no problem. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Office Chair on carpet 10Jan 03, 2012 1:18 pm Rubber side down here. The chairs with no wheels are a better option. The rubber mat is a good idea but you have to watch for colour bleeding as the mat can sweat during summer. Re: Office Chair on carpet 12Jan 03, 2012 5:41 pm Here’s my rubber back carpet. Rubber facing down as it should. Yes occasionally I have to move the mat back into place, but that’s the wheels of the chair that move the mat. Little tip - make sure your carpet piece is dark...I eat and drink im office and you can't see the spills on the dark carpet (oooo, look at the dust on my chair…. ) Thought I would post this info that was sent to me buy a friend in the industry. Carpet mats on top of carpet often just does not work. It depends largely on the type of carpet beneath the mat. If the carpet beneath the mat compresses much at all, it will tend to move the mat in a certain direction as the nap lays in one direction. Also the weight bearing down on the wheels of the caster chair will cause distortions to the mat, making it move or pucker. Those plastic mats really are designed for use on commercial carpets (that are low profile with little movement/compression). Domestic carpets with deeper, plush pile and spongey underlay are simply not suited to office chairs. If a mat must be used, it needs to be one that is very firm, so that it resists distortion. That’s why the plastic mats are so rigid. However, even the plastic mats end up cracking and falling apart after some time. That’s why the home office/study where caster chairs are used is best to have a low profile carpet fitted, such as modular carpet tiles, or heavy duty carpet that is directly glued to the floor. The less movement in the fitted carpet, the better! The abrasive nature of the backing can act like a sandpaper and actually cause as muh damage, so we would suggest you have an appropriate backing added to the overlocked carpet prior to use. You can buy the mats from Officeworks.. prices vary depending on the quality, and you can get ones for low, medium or high pile carpet. We spent just over $100, I think it was. Yes, there are 'spike holes' in the carpet when i lift the mat, but they vacuum out (i vacuum under the mat every time i do the office, which is at least once a week). So we can't change the carpet but need to protect it from the 2 chairs. What can I do to protect the carpet? Are the plastic mats any good, or what if we put an extra piece of carpet on top of the carpet then the mat? All else failing should I get a particular type of chair? Hi, We had this kind of issue in our home office, the carpet floor in our home got damaged while moving my chair back and forth because of the castor wheels. Recently, I bought mats from https://ergofurniture.com.au/product/chair-mats/ The grip of the mat is quite good on the carpet floor and provides smooth riding while rolling on and off. My home office is hot with computer equipment running virtually 18 hours a day. When it gets unbearably warm I simply step out of my door into the living area which is… 0 5487 1 16498 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6981 |
