Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 11, 2023 8:30 pm Hello, I'm overwhelmed and confused by the advice given by the council/builders/certifiers. I'm in Queensland. The house I purchased has a rumpus room attached to the house. I want to convert this into a master with ensuite. (Attached exisiting and proposed plan) The rumpus is under the roof of the house, does it require 'planning permission'? Who gives planning permissions? Builder certifiers or the council? Are all works required to be carried out by a QBCC licenced plumber/electrician? I'm just looking for some solid advice of what steps I need to take so it's all compliant. Thank you in advance for any wisdom and guidance you may have. That will present a number of challenges. Single brick wall between piers will not be waterproof and or may not have required fire rating if against boundary. Your slab is likely not waterproof Firstly talk to planners in your council then to the building surveyor. As you are converting use you will need a building permit for safety health and amenity of the occupants ( what if someone sleeps there and there is no smoke alarm?)
